I'm a gay man. I literally have zero interest in doing the thing that makes babies. I couldn't be less interested in it, in fact. I got as annoyed at this chapter as Castaneda did during his discussion with DJ on the topic. What the hell am I supposed to do? How do I interpret this as a gay man who will never change to heterosexual because it is against my desires in every way?
I feel discouraged and demoralized. Respectful input only, please.

Stop feeling so pitiful for yourself, it's not that deep. Look, you don't have to worry about it. For most it's not that big of a deal. All its rlly saying is that if u rlly wanna save as much of your energy as you can for sorcery, it's a good idea to consider celibacy. Dan is celibate for this reason. For the average person, you haven't made enough progress for this to rlly matter. Consider it when u begin to notice a loss in ability in darkroom after intimate activities, otherwise just ignore this for now and focus on inner silence.
I understand that. And for the most part, I am celibate, as I live in a small town and am slowly learning to appreciate life away from my sex-addicted days of living in a large city. However it seems impossible to ignore desires even in the sense of buttering ones own muffin - don't mean to make things awkward but it is reality - and so it seems insurmountable. I will try to focus on other things and not be discouraged.
Like I said, don't worry ab it until u find it's actually hindering ur progress. If we focus so much on these kinds of "lifestyle changes" we will end up just as bad as the Buddhists and such. At a certain point u will be alr mentally ready for such abandonment, no need fretting ab it when ur still stuck in the river of shit. It isnt going to do you any good, esp without inner silence. Inner silence should be your priority, not forcing some weird philosophy or lifestyle change on urself.
This is amazing advice. Don't worry about it til you believe it is hindering you. At that point you will decide which is more valuable and it will be easy for you to not spank the monkey. You won't even think about it, unless you decide to. That urge won't consume your thoughts anymore.

This is just a small part of the books. It's not determining your progress nor does it matter whether you will make children or not.

That's what happens when you put a quote without context. That quote is also missing the second part about conceiving children.
Don Juan is not saying that you should have children if you have sex. He is saying that sex depletes your energy because you are, whether you want it or not, whether you conceive a child or not, bestowing (your own) awareness.

You might be too obssessed with defining yourself, or what you think is yourself at least. What even is gayness? The very concept is part of cultural imprinting. Through your self obssession, you have the title of "gay man" to add to your collection of meaningless titles. Who cares what sexually excites you? No one serious here does. Any one that does care is not worth dealing with, they got their own shit to deal with. The more serious you get about whats offered here, the more you realize how silly and unimportant it is to even think about. A good first step might be to seriously consider all of your "titles" and whether or not you really need any of them.
I find abstinence only effective to break habits. If you're stuck in some "daily sex" pattern, that's the most energy consuming. If your sex patterns are random, inconsistent and reflect some type of "intent" cycle, you have not much to worry about. You want to break the obsession with sex being a "healthy and important" need. If you accomplished that you have done enough imo.
Pitying oneself is the epitome of most of DJ's teachings. He would call it "too much self-importance.. you're not important enough to the universe to pity yourself so much" or something.
As for the glow: sexual energy is Creative energy or Life. Send the impulses upward and feel yourself be more able to Penetrate Life. Reproduction doesn't have to have anything to do with it.
But are we to be completely abstinent or is it more of a semen retention kinda thing?
Personally, that's my interpretation. I see it as: How often am I willing to allow my most precious spiritual energy to be wasted? And, more importantly, who am I willing to share that with? Will they reciprocate or just mooch it? If it's reciprocated, then it is both replenished AND increased.
It means don't wastefully expend sexual energy. Use it for the purpose it's intended for if you are to use it. Otherwise don't squander it.
The mentality of 'I'm a gay man and this is not applicable to me, it makes me angry and I'm now offended and feel like a victim.' is the antithesis of everything in the teachings. You've actually been given a gift in this. You have a perfect opportunity to stalk yourself and use that offense and poor me internal dialogue as a way to bolster your own power.
