Unfocusing eyes for long periods of time bad for them?

I'm concerned about unfocusing my eyes during long walks. Wouldn't it mess up my vision overtime? Is there an alternative?

Maybe you were meaning the "Right Way of Walking" technique?
The eyes focus on a point between your feet and the horizon that enables you to see enough details of your sorroundings, without actually fixing your view in them.
But the "focus" concern doesn't make much sense for me.
While you are watching your phone close, you are unfocusing what's behind. And visceversa.
That won't do harm to your vision.
Most gazing techniques work like that.
If you are feeling harm, you are probably intentionally forcing them too much.

Wow, looks like I misinterpreted what I read, and I thought that I'm supposed to literally walk cross-eyed. This is so embarrassing. I'm so sorry for making this post.

No worries.
Crossing the eyes is mentioned in the books, while doing the Gazing techniques.
But I suspect it is never more than what you'd have while focusing a finger 20cm from your face.
Keeping the eyes like that, but paying attention to what's behind.
But the important part is that when the Second Attention emerges, you won't need to worry about that anymore.
You can just see what you were looking for.

Did you even study in here at all?
But to answer your question, no one knows.
We don't have any "Sadhgurus" in here, who have all the answers.
And that's not something any of us would be likely to be concerned with.
Maybe having your underwear chafe the inside of your leg as you practiced, could also be a concern?
Or stepping in dog feces.
Blisters on your heel?
And watch out for those seagulls!
But doing nothing to change your horrible situation is certainly far worse for you!
You have no idea what an ugly mess you are currently in.
By the way, you don't have a chance in hell of ever learning. Might as well pack it up right now.
You won't hear that elsewhere, because all other magical systems are just crummy businesses, which steal money in exchange for pretend magic. Or pretend status such as "Enlightened Master". They want as many hanging around as possible. They'll even tell you, "It can take several lifetimes to reach enlightenment."
Just to make sure to keep you prisoner for your entire life, if they can get away with it.
This place has no one with any monetary interest, so you'll only get the truth in here.
And we have a lot of experience with new posters.
8800 of them subscribed since real magic was freely available in here.
And it's the only place on earth with the real thing.
Yet only 1 in 100 ever put in actual work to learn.
It always works if you do, but even among those who claim to be trying, if you could see what they are actually doing it would be obvious they aren't.
It's a strange phenomena. People like to hang out in magic subreddits, and soak up attention.
I'm a big fan of nature shows, and ones about great apes in particular.
Maybe hanging out or posting in a magic subreddit is a bit like how some male apes who don't actually have the drive to take over a tribe and run it, still like to hang out around the leader.
Others however are smarter, and hang out with the female chips.
The actual leaders of the tribe.

What Dan is getting at is that you have to have a good measure of tenacity to succeed, when you're operating as a free agent like we are.
And if you're lacking in that, it would be better to cycle back when circumstances have altered your outlook.

I do though. But being a tenacious person doesn't mean that I shouldn't be concerned, does it?

Concern doesn't go away easily.
It's supposed to?
