I was dreaming this morning, after having woke up at 5am. In the dream, I was trying to take a scooter off the wall and ride it down a hill. But I thought, "this is going to be one of those things that should be totally easy, but I try and then fail over and over again when I'm dreaming. Oh! I'm dreaming."
So I told myself to look at my hands. First my left and then my right came up into my view. I looked at them a bit, then looked away to see a man in the room facing me. Then looked back at my hands. I did this maybe a second time. I felt I needed more energy in my hands, swept my hands from infront and above my head to the sides and down, squatting slightly as my hands dropped. I scooped them to the middle and up, then when they were in front of my turned them back palms forward too look at the backs of my hands and forearms. I repeated this once or twice.
Then I woke up. I was pretty shocked to had what seemed like recognizing I was in a dream and then choosing to look at my hands. I was a bit pleased by this, but then woke up AGAIN. At that point I was really awake.
SO... I didn't exactly look at my hands "in my dream". I had "dreamed to have looked at my hands in a dream".
Does anyone have any experience with this? Could this indicate any progress or successful intent? Or is it just a random dream?

The main issue with 4 Gates Dreaming is not that it doesn’t work, but that it only works sometimes.
Its unreliability is why it can’t be recommended for beginners as a means of generating actual progress.
For men, anyway.
This is at least better than we usually get from those who believe sleeping dreams are a path to sorcery abilities.
But to succeed at "four gates dreaming" you'd have to find your hands FOR REAL, as many as 4 times every single night.
It's mandatory to find your hands, in order to bring your tonal energy into the dream.
Something which you can learn to visible see if you practice darkroom.
But if you take the sleeping path, yo uneer realize this. You have Carlos' instructions, but don't understand why they are the way they are, so people ignore them.
I was up to finding my hands 6 times a night and remaining in fully rational dreaming for as long as 12 hours a night, when I was admitted to private classes with Carlos and lost my desire to keep doing that path.
It's extremely hard, and NO ONE has ever done far enough to matter, in the 55 years since Carlos released his first mention of it in a book.
It's pretty much just a lazy male attention seeking ploy which has plagued our community all these years.
But of course, you could make it work.
Except you'd be lucky to find your hands deliberately (and not just notice them in the dream) once a month.
And also, it never says in any book of Carlos that this is a valid path to sorcery knowledge.
You can't find it in any of them.
Worse, everyone plays around and claims to make it to the third gate, ignoring that at the second gate you have to visit the dreaming emissary around 100 times by my estimates (from the book), and learn continuously from them, such that it's actually frustrating.
Don Juan told Carlos to take notes just on what applied to one specific topic.
But wait....
(continued)
If Carlos was asleep in a dream, how could he take notes?
People ignore that little detail...
And why would he bother, since the notes would not be around in the morning.
So actually, he was doing this awake.
It's pretty clear from the storyline, if you consider the 3rd gate of dreaming.
Where when asked a question at a bookstore lecture Carlos once stopped a four gates obsessed fan in the middle of his question.
He was asking, "At the third gate, how do...
Carlos stopped him and said, "That's impossible. You can't reach the 3rd gate until you can get silent. Learn to remove your internal dialogue and come back in a year, and we'll talk shop."
At the 3rd gate, you lay down in a fixed position on the bed, use your ability to remove your internal dialogue to go directly into a dream (darkroomers can do that), and then once inside, you lay down in the same position and go to sleep in the dream.
That's the "twin positions"!
It's not done using sleeping dreams.
And neither is the second gate.
So basically everyone is pretending, and not even doing a good job of it.
At the forth gate, you have to bring the double out into the real copy of the world.
One night I thought I had done this 10 times in a row, but each time as I was satisfied I succeeded, I would either walk out of the house or drive to work, only to find I was still trapped in a dream world.
It's not pleasant to get trapped in dreaming!
In fact, Four Gates dreaming is a very unpleasant path, and extremely slow. So slow, no one has ever made it work but Carlos.
Meanwhile your double just shows up one day if you do darkroom, and you don't have to go to all those tricks to bring it out into the real world.
You use candy to lure it out on it's own!
Candy = tensegrity done in silence.
It absolutely can't resist coming near to you in the real world, if you can do Tensegrity with no internal dialogue.
It's been waiting and dreaming of that your whole life!
Finding your hands in darkroom is a lot easier, does finding them there do anything specific?
It's not necessary.
Finding your hands in a dream is so that you can prove you brought tonal energy into the dream. A portion of your rationality.
Tonal energy is that portion of your total energy which got trapped in the organs of the body.
This is all fully visible during darkroom, so it's not just weird chinese philosophy which isn't true at all.
Your dreamer's energy is not trapped in the internal organs. It either couldn't fit, or refused. So it wanders around in dreams.
You find your hands first to prove it's real first gate dreaming, so that people don't pretend ordinary dreams into something they are not.
But also because it creates a "charge" which brings a scout.
Don Juan said the charge "compels" the inorganic beings to send a scout.
If you don't follow that procedure, it's not four gates dreaming.
Awake there's no need because you have all of your rationality intact.
Darkroom's goal is to stuff puffs from your dreamer (your energy body) onto the places where the Tonal energy got trapped.
Again, FULLY VISIBLE.
There's no chance to deceive yourself with darkroom practice.
Unfortunately once most people figure out you actually have to do work, instead of just pretend you did, they give up.
All the magical systems out there are fake, and encourage laziness and pretending.
Their techniques are often even designed to simulate taking a lazy nap, the way meditation does, so as to get as many to pay for workshop and classes as possible.
Not caring that it never produces results worth pursuing.
