I'm currently on the book "Tales of Power", and it's been a long time since I've read so many books so fast. Since starting to read Castaneda, memories of dreams from my childhood have been resurfacing. While there are parallels between what I'm been reading and what I've experienced, they don't align perfectly. These experiences primarily occurred when I was young, starting around age 3 and they continued as I grew older but with diminishing frequency.
- Allys/IOBs
While dreaming there's a general feeling of what's normal but occasionally I'd encounter some kind of visitor. They were always solitary and possessed an immense intensity about them that set them apart from everything else. In computer terms, if the surrounding area was in 1080p then they were in 8k. But it wasn't just their appearance, it was how they made me feel. They created such an intense level of fear that can't be compared to anything else in my normal life. This feeling was most intense when I observed their faces. When I looked at them, they would come close and would essentially lock onto my face and I couldn't look away. Unlike what I've read about in the books, there was no spinning sensation like what apparently happens when you try and overpower an ally.
When this would happen I would normally force myself to wake up and that took quite a lot of effort. Alternatively I would refuse to look at them or their face and avoid the problem entirely. There were occasions of bravery where I forced myself to look at them in the face, but the there was no noticeable difference in outcome.
- Doubles?
Some dreams would take place in my house with various family members present, but there would be a twin or a clone of a family member. What I find interesting is that I could always tell the 2 apart. The original was supposed to be there, but the other felt different. This wasn't necessarily like the beings from the first point which had a clear and large intensity about them, but I could feel something similar. I also learned two rules, that they couldn't get near each other and I shouldn't mention the other's existence. If I brought up the existence of a twin they would be confused or would attack me. This is basically nothing like in the books and would lead me to think that it's just a dream.
- Enemy spots?
While I don't remember seeing I would label as beneficial spots, there were definitely some that I considered negative spots. However, these are also not like what I've read about either so it might be some other phenomena or just a dream. These were under the seat where my dad often sat, under certain couches or in the bathroom. By being close to and looking at these spots I could cause a creature to appear, leading to the same face-to-face lock as with the IOBs from earlier.
I'm willing to accept that most of these are a product of a child's dreams, but not the IOBs. Those things definitely fed off of my fear. My question is basically if these dream experiences have merit in remembering them and trying to replicate them again as an adult. For example, if I meet another one of these "visitors/IOBs/etc" in my dream, should I try and wrestle it to the ground? Or should I not concern myself with dreams until I can do the hand-looking technique?
On a related note: I've recently started some of the practices talked about in the books and on the sub like walking & gazing and dark room and have had some small successes like seeing colors and a small encounter with what I believe was an IOB. But, I've had absolutely zero luck with being lucid enough in my dreams to remember to look at my hands

Decide for yourself what's what, you might have changed your mind from a child.

Concern yourself with dreams where you can follow the instructions for sorcery dreaming, but especially concern yourself with the waking practices. A sorcerer is a sorcerer every minute of the day, not just while dreaming.
>But, I've had absolutely zero luck with being lucid enough in my dreams to remember to look at my hands, so advice on that is appreciated
Redeploy your energy through the practices outlined in the books and that have additional guidance here.
For instance, enemy spots can be clearly seen (Carlos did it after hours and hours of practice) and NOT just felt like you described in sorcery.
Keep practicing and keep reading!
Thanks for the feedback! I'll continue the practices and readings. I'm almost done with Tales of Power but I need to read up and do more on sorcery dreaming.
Is this having intent with all your actions? I remember a story of Don Juan telling Carlos that he was a fool for attending a party and getting attacked by his witch enemy because he didn't have a reason for being there or a goal to accomplish
Well yes, but that wasn’t what I meant. There are practices for every part of the day. Tensegrity is exercise, gazing at rest, and Inner Silence is the THE most important of all. Eventually you can keep it up 24/7 even while sleeping. The other practices let you get much deeper into silence and move your assemblage point. Do tensegrity during darkroom.
Oh ok I didn't realize this. I'll do that and check out the wiki
The stated purpose of this subreddit is to aid in restoring the reputation of Carlos Castaneda and the knowledge he imparted, by pragmatically applying that knowledge IN PRACTICE. This means that we are sticking to what really works, as proven by direct experience by long-practicing members. We need to make clear our intent to move away, as a community, from the mistakes others have made. Content that is at-odds with this purpose will, upon review, be removed.
