I asked Chatgpt if Carlos had any connections to the CIA and wasn't given any real answers besides the fact that his work was associated with the hippie movement, but that's what happens when you're part of the counterculture movement in the late 60's. I wasn't given any concrete names. I know that Richard de Mille, Scientologist and personal assistant of L Ron Hubbard, published a couple books to ruin Castaneda's legacy. Merilyn Tunneshende and a couple other grifters published books after his death but I get the feeling they were more concerned with making money. Tarnishing Castaneda's name was an afterthought.

Bro, Carlos died in 1998. During this period the CIA was already investigating Osama Bin Laden and the Al Qaida at full speed. Why the hell would they decide to kill him. They could‘ve done it way earlier if they wanted to.

Why don't they just suppress everything they don't like? MLK got pretty far before they decided to off him. I mean that was after he decided to start advocating for UBI, but still. Also, Castaneda is seen by the majority of people as a drug-addict hippy who led a death cult in the desert. I think that's intentional. I don't know the whole picture but yes, there's evidence a lot of Carlos' shit was suppressed by the powers that be. The liberation of human beings isn't something that benefits them.

Actually, not long after the revitalization of this subreddit in 2019, Dan was contacted by someone who hinted that they worked in some secret government agency or program. They gave him a list of the phone numbers and addresses of people who had attended workshops held by Cleargreen in the 1990's, since Dan had mentioned that was info he could potentially use, and implied that they were on board with the revamping of our messaging and renewed focus on practice.
Meaning we weren't just like all the other kooks out there!
Ha, I know I have a tendency towards conspiratorial thinking, sometimes it's good to try to ground myself with other people's (more sober) takes.
And that's very interesting that government people would contact Dan. I'm not too surprised, this is real so obviously they'd keep tabs on people here. If Joe Schmoe can find this subreddit there's no doubt in my mind that alphabet agencies could too.
I guess as long as people don't get too uppity we should be safe.
The stated purpose of this subreddit is to aid in restoring the reputation of Carlos Castaneda and the knowledge he imparted, by pragmatically applying that knowledge IN PRACTICE. This means that we are sticking to what really works, as proven by direct experience by long-practicing members. We need to make clear our intent to move away, as a community, from the mistakes others have made. Content that is at-odds with this purpose will, upon review, be removed.
