I don't know if it's just me, but I continue to be tripped up by the word ENERGY, and the habit of either glossing over it's use (in context) or the sometimes flippant way it's incorporated into the descriptions of these practices.
As is evident by this past post of mine:
And, unfortunately, not made all that much clearer by Dan's post here:
I guess my dissatisfaction with other definitions I've read, has to do with ignoring key parts of one's internal experience with this.
So I, yet again, asked Google's Gemini AI system several precisely worded queries on this, and cobbled together the results:
>In the context of the human mind and emotions, energy refers to the mental and emotional capacity to think, feel, and engage with the world.
>To make decisions, and follow through on those decisions.
>To act. Or to do work, in the context of physics.
>In the mental context, is not a physical (or electrical) substance, but a psychological resource that fuels our cognitive processes and emotional states. Think of it as a finite but replenishable supply that determines our ability to focus, make decisions, handle stress, and express emotions.

Mental and Emotional Energy
>Mental Energy: This is the cognitive fuel that allows you to concentrate, solve problems, and learn. When your mental energy is high, you feel focused and alert. When it's low, you might experience "brain fog," difficulty concentrating, and a lack of motivation.
>Emotional Energy: This relates to the intensity and quality of your emotions. Positive emotions like enthusiasm and optimism can be described as high emotional energy, while feelings of apathy, depression, and fatigue are associated with low emotional energy. The Latin root of the word "emotion," emotere, literally means "energy in motion," highlighting the dynamic and fluid nature of our feelings.
Draining (and Replenishing) Energy
>Stress, overthinking, and negative emotions can significantly drain both mental and emotional energy. The constant cycle of worrying or ruminating on a problem can deplete your cognitive resources, leaving you feeling mentally exhausted. Similarly, unresolved conflicts or suppressed feelings can lead to emotional burnout.
On replenishing energy, the best and most accessible avenue is physically performing the magical passes, and learning to incorporate certain choice passes into your everyday activities.
That is, after all, part of their explicit and intended function/goal!
Limiting Your Mental Diet
>It is as advisable to exert conscious control over the information and thoughts you allow into your mind, with the goal of improving your mental and emotional well-being.
>This "mental diet" concept draws a direct parallel between what you consume physically (food) and what you consume mentally (information).
>The core idea is that your thoughts and the information you consume directly shape your reality, your emotions, and your ability to act. By intentionally "feeding" your mind with better "nutrients" and "restricting" the harmful ones, you can cultivate a more resilient and focused mindset.
Limiting Distractions
>Distractions negatively impact our ability to focus because they force our brains to constantly shift attention, creating a conflict between the task at hand and the competing stimuli. This process, often called attentional conflict, places a significant burden on our cognitive resources. Instead of focusing on a single task, our brain has to actively suppress the distractions, which increases the brain's cognitive load.

>Task-Switching: When we think we're multitasking, we're actually rapidly switching back and forth between tasks. Each switch has a "switching cost"—the time and effort it takes to reorient our focus, recall the necessary information, and get back into the flow of the original task. This process is not only inefficient but also mentally draining, and can significantly erode our ability to sustain attention over time.
>The Vicious Cycle of Distraction: Distractions create a feedback loop that makes us more susceptible to them over time. Frequent, and stressful, environmental or mental interruptions can raise levels of hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, and lead to an internal "guard dog" state, further increasing feelings of anxiety and frustration, which in turn, further impair cognitive function and make it harder to concentrate (thus the need to prepare your space by having some control over your life situation, and to recapitulate).
>Conversely, activities that are attentively engaging, and that bring joy (and magic ✨!) can help replenish this energy. Just as physical rest recharges the body, mental and emotional well-being are crucial for restoring and maintaining this vital psychological resource.

Comparing energy to emotions is like comparing water to vapor/ice. E-motions are energy in motion.
I must confess that I love that cartoon, at least the first two seasons.
I was reading something about “recapitulation” and since it seems to be “in fashion” these past few days, check out what Dan wrote in a comment three years ago: “The sweeping head uncovers fibers of yellow light going out to each one. Those are your "lost energy" and at the other end of the fiber is the cause. That which has you "stuck" in that event.” See the full post: (https://www.reddit.com/r/castaneda/comments/ur6xd8/recap_chronology/)
Maybe that “lost yellow energy” could be like Jake, and Finn’s actions the cause of the energy loss? Should Finn incorporate Jake and together become something new, instead of remaining a pubescent boy who’s afraid of water?
Okay, it’s a forced metaphor. But you can’t deny that recapitulation is “recovery of energy” the kind we’re interested in Olmec Sorcery. And check out this other post on recap: (https://www.reddit.com/r/castaneda/comments/l9h1te/recapitulation_effects/)
This post perfectly sums up both my extrinsic understanding of energy and intrinsic understanding of energy. The latter is damn near impossible to put into words; you need to experience it, which I unfortunately did.
Energy is motion. The rate of the motion expresses an infinite number of items in our reality, such as the mind.
The items in our reality are containers, smaller sets of infinity. Those containers have stored energy for a lack of better phrase (I’m trying very hard not to go down the inventory rabbit hole 😭)
Difficult to talk about energy without mentioning force. They seem to be linked.
Energy is the activation of consciouness, the movemet of consciousness.
It was harder to make then I think, and not very "re-usable".
I might have to learn to write in python inside the animation program, unless AIs get even better than they are now and can do it for me.
The currently offer... But don't trust their coding. It's only good for easy problems.
This picture doesn't help at all to explain "What is Energy".
But it shows that you can view it directly, over time.
In fact, a time will come when you stand up to practice and within 30 seconds you know if you messed up and blew all of your dreaming energy. And you can think over what happened during the 24 hour period before you practiced.
When you obviously have a LOT of energy that night, you get to think on what might have brought that on.
In my case, more often than not, I collided with Cholita. She typically hides out, but once in a while she doesn't. And I end up with that picture on the lower right, where dark energy dominates.
But what does it even mean when you “lose energy”??
Does it deposit on the shell of the egg?
I think dark energy is defined by movement,
because we’re always using it to light up a bundle of emanations to see.
But the whole issue has always been about keeping that sight steady and concrete.
Ah, the wish of the old seers!
That’s where the technology of the inorganic beings comes in. the internal dialogue.
It’s the place where you trap the urge of dark energy to move, inside a loop. You keep lighting up a certain bundle of emanations with your internal dialogue over and over, and as a result, the sight gets stabilized and becomes concrete, the size of a whole world.
But it seems even that isn’t eternal. By the end of the night you blank out, and the assemblage point shoots off like a bullet (sleep).
Then it comes back again to where you intended, and lights it up once more.
So maybe the flyers aren’t actually “bad”? They just taught us what we asked for: how to keep a sight concrete forever.
Funny that the old seers were ready to give up everything just to make things concrete. and now we have to do the exact opposite.
We'll need "new seer" quality Silent Knowledge, to be able to answer the "where does the energy go?" question.
Maybe even at least two of them in the same location, since more energy from multiple people makes more concrete results.
Don Juan did say that there were seers throughout the ages given the task of seeing "What the Eagle Wants".
Maybe he literally means the plural. That you needed two seers, in each lineage.
Seeing is VAST and very confusing. And you can't get concrete results everyday.
Even the weather can make that impossible.
Cholita for instance, goes crazy (more than usual) when it rains really hard.
For me, heat is the enemy.
Maybe I'll finally put an air conditioner in my dark room. I've been trying to avoid it by using a gigantic fan.
Hasn't worked lately.
Last night there was a light rain, I suppose that focusing on the crackling of the drops was what triggered a parade of “aquatic-themed GIFs” in the D.R. It was “interesting”, But I couldn’t get any further…

Unified map of “energy” the way Castaneda’s line talks about it—putting sexual energy, the energy body, and attention under one frame you can actually use.
TL;DR — one field, different faces
Think of a single currency—deployable attention—that shows up as:
A handy heuristic:
Sorceric Work = Charge × Coherence × Direction.
If any factor drops toward zero, the whole thing collapses.
1) Raw vitality (charge)
What it is: baseline “battery” from sleep, breath, food, posture, sunlight, movement, and arousal state.
How it feels: clear but not jittery; body is ready; mind has headroom.
Leaks: sleep debt, shallow mouth-breathing, slumped posture, stimulant/doom-scroll spikes.
Builds: nasal breathing, long exhales, tall spine, daylight, rhythmic movement, quiet food/hydration hygiene.
Sexual charge lives here first—it’s a big, fast-moving source of raw voltage. Left untended it tends to spend itself through compulsion; tended, it can be steered (see §6).
2) Attention as energy (free vs. bound)
What it is: the usable portion of your awareness not glued to loops.
Bound attention = stuck to memories, roles, worries (narration).
Free attention = what you can place and hold without internal dialogue.
Leaks: rumination, self-importance/self-pity, reactive scrolling, multi-tasking.
Builds: inner silence on demand, recapitulation (unglues memory-hooks), peripheral gaze (widens field so a single object can’t “bite” your focus), simple breath gating (e.g., 4-2-6).
3) Cohesion (personal power)
What it is: the structural integrity of your attention—can you keep the assemblage point stable long enough to actually do something non-ordinary?
Signals it’s high: fewer mood whiplashes, you keep small promises to yourself, action feels quiet and inevitable.
Signals it’s low: you start ten things, finish none; every emotion reconfigures your day.
Builds: impeccability (micro-promises kept), clean boundaries (no “soft yes” then resent), routine “energy audits” (where did I leak today?), standing passes/holds that teach your nervous system to stand still inside.
4) Direction (Intent)
What it is: the ordering pull you sense when narration drops—like a low tug in the belly/solar plexus. It’s not a wish; it’s a current you align to.
Practice: ask once (plain sentence), feel for the pull in silence, take the next ordinary step immediately. No bargaining, no checking.
Fails when: you “intend” every five minutes (that’s wishing), or you ask but don’t move (field can’t couple to inertia).
5) The energy body (“double”)
What it is: a stable configuration of attention (second attention) that becomes workable once charge × cohesion cross a threshold. It starts as bodywide sensation (hum, pressure, brightness) you can hold while walking/talking; later it shows up in dreaming and wakeful shifts.
On-ramp: silence → wide gaze → single anchor (breath-texture, whole-body hum). Hold the anchor as you act (not just on a cushion). That “parallel running” is the double coming online.
6) Sexual energy (charge you can steer)
What it is: the most potent charge-driver in daily life. In this lineage it’s neither dirty nor sacred by default—it’s expensive. Spent compulsively, it scatters attention; stewarded, it thickens the field for silence, dreaming, and intent.
Two practical moves (non-esoteric, safe):
Key idea: it’s not celibacy-for-badness or indulgence-for-goodness; it’s clarity of spend. The question is always: “Did that increase or fragment my attention for the next hours/days?”
7) Emotions as energy (glue or gateway)
Emotion = charge + meaning. The “meaning” (narration) is the glue that traps attention.
Transmutation move: feel-through without story (90–120 s). Let the body finish the wave; when the glue dissolves, the same intensity becomes usable attention. Then ask once and step.
8) A single unified picture
You can treat it like a simple “equation”:
Use it diagnostically: if things feel “mystically off,” one of the three is at or near zero.
9) Quick map → practice
I would remove everything after "you can treat it like a simple "equation.""
