I started reading Carlos Casteneda’s first book because I came across the subreddit and it seemed unlikely that everyone here was just lying. However after finishing the first book, I wanted to learn more about Yaqui history and so I did some research but nowhere could I find any mention of an entity called Mezcalito. I even checked in Mexican history pertaining to the Sonora area, still nothing. I’ve also come to learn that many regard Castaneda as a conman or liar. How do I know that any of this is worth my time?

This link addresses most of the claims regarding his reputatation, however, it is irrelevant. I started practicing and got results even before I found this subreddit, so it is plainly real.

No where in the first book, does it mention "the teachings of the Yaqui", it is "the teachings of Don Juan".
Don Juan is a Yaqui, but his teachings come from elsewhere.
