Castaneda's books are among my favorites. I first discovered the early ones in the mid-1980's, read them all, and eagerly awaited the forthcoming ones. In the mid-1990's I learned that Castenada had begun holding workshops in California. I attended three of them. I'm glad I did because not long afterwards he died.

In the decades since, I have reread the books many times. They never get old; in fact they get better in some ways, or perhaps I appreciate them more as I get older. I've read a great many other spiritual/metaphysical books and can say that Castenada's stand with the best of them and provide a unique perspective.

I feel the same. It seemed to me at one time that Castaneda was the foremost figure of the new age movement. These days it seems more like his works have been forgotten or perhaps swept to the side in an avalanche of gurus. The Castaneda books shaped my view of the world and basically made me the man I am today; I am forever grateful.

That sounds like it would be good, considering that Don Juan provided the knowledge, while Carlos recorded it.

Yes, indeed. I also created my own collection of Don Juan's pearls of wisdom. However, when I read the final book, The Active Side of Infinity, I was amazed by Carlos' writing skill. Every chapter delivers a jolt at its end, beautifully set up and elegantly delivered, mimicking in words Don Juan's technique of jolting the assemblage point.

I had the pleasure of hearing excerpts of this book read during a week-long workshop held at UCLA (in Pauley Pavillion) during the summer of 1996, before the book was published. Also read were poems written by Carlos. Don Juan was not the only one who loved poetry.

Carlos thought that it was a powerful omen that there was a tennis tournament being held next door named "Infiniti Open" (after the car).
