Just listened to an inspiring podcast conversation, linked below, on the evidence for an advanced GLOBAL civilization WAY back in prehistory that was based around shamanism and the use of entheogens and had completely different priorities than our global civilization. That the majority of it's citizens participated in esoteric practices like dreaming etc. since it's was basically the state religion. Their knowledge, preserved by surviving lineages like don Juan's, managed to be "modernized" under the yoke of colonial occupation so it could be "exploded" by Castaneda across the world; evolved and restructured... purged of it's remaining flaws, baggage, and inefficiencies, to emerge again...
I made a comment HERE https://www.reddit.com/r/castaneda/comments/bj6lql/comment/em6mhxi about entire civilizations or cities that may have disappeared into a shared dream. Hancock talks about how the first Spanish explorer to traverse the breadth of the Amazon river saw these cities with hundreds of thousands of occupants. But when the next wave of explorers came through, the cities were abandoned and overgrown.
Their seers no doubt saw (precognitively) the devastation that was coming, small pox and slaughter at the hands of the Conquistadores, and informed their people so that those who were able to could choose to flee into their shared dreamscape. One oral myth of the surviving native tribes is that their ancestors disappeared "underground" into the inner Earth (with their real treasure, knowledge not gold) to escape the spaniards...and will someday return.
We are all the inheritors of the legacy of those shamans/sorcerers of antiquity, and part of a continuity going back farther than we thought possible. We also have the responsibility to drive it ever-onward, improving and expanding it in ways they could not, with our collective impeccability.
It's right up a Nagualist's alley, and is a hugely compelling listen.

I also link the "Revelations of an Insider" internet chat a few years back. The "Insider" claimed to belong to a secretive surviving lineage of this ancient civilization of pre-history, who possess knowledge of events (that'll blow your damn mind!) going back tens of thousands of years before the Babylonians. Thanks!
I can't look at this in detail right now, but don't forget that the hindus claim we go through "ages", or something like that. We're in the age of ignorance. But the age of something better will return. It's cyclical.
I'm not pointing this out as verification, but rather as a bias of a given religion, which crops up in stuff over and over, coloring the conclusions because of advocacy. Scholars are religious people also (some are athiests which is still a religious view). Their views tilt stuff.
For example, they found some round oxidized metal objects in fossilized pebble rich dirt (I guess an old river bank that hardened over a long time).
Someone wrote them up as coins from a previous "earth age", in accordance with hindu beliefs.
Who knows what they were, but the prejudice colors things.
The particular segment I highlighted is as much about the present as it is the past, and instilled hope for an eventual transition out of this "ignorant age."
You (u/danl999) posted:
"...Carlos created a new myth, for us, in his books. He said he wrote them to "hook" us. But if you think about the rule of the eagle, it also serves the function of hooking apprentices. Because to follow it as a map, you have to believe that the destination is achievable. You get hooked on a goal, and you pursue.
Idea: Our map is the new myth of don Juan, and a group of entertaining people who work together in a fun manner, for a common goal.
The old myth is not for us..."
The 'Revelations of an Insider' discussion is a great mental exercise for a Nagualist. Basically they are asked a lot of what some would call "hippy-dippy" or muddle-minded questions, and they correct the questioner's thinking without forcing an extreme right brain/scientific materialist/reductionist mindset into the conversation.
A Nagualist needs to maintain a level head in potentially extreme mental states, only achievable by keeping an ordered thought process. Some of those in don Juan's group were academics and held advanced degrees or worked in logical/analytical professions while they practiced sorcery in parallel.

It's interesting, but there are alternative explanations to this information. Hindus use it to boost their claims of repeating earth ages, and christians also to bolster the previous earth age claim.
Not to mention UFO groups making their claims.
It could be, the real explanation is even weirder than all of those theories.

I'm famous for insulting people who write to me, typically because I have to in order to do what they asked, help them out. If they’re down a rabbit hole, I’m kind of forced to point out that they’re groveling in the mud.
But this isn't intended to be that. It's just a warning for anyone who can't yet get silent. Once you can get silent, this kind of thing is actually useful, as a cognitive dissonance. Carlos used those from time to time, although you could never tell if he wasn’t just rewarding someone who had an interest in that topic, like he clearly did with the psychic surgery topic.
Here’s goes at the rate of insulting someone. I know a witch from Carlos' group who's internal dialogue is so noisy, it's filled with stuff even more out there than this. She soaks it up like a drug, and it moves her assemblage point to a place where she feels safer.
If anything goes wrong, she finds a magical explanation in order to avoid responsibility for her own actions. Her reasoning is circular and impenetrable, until a disaster hits her.
The entertainment value of the stuff she hears on the internet fills in the lonely depression of having nothing to look forward to in life. That’s where her internal dialogue has taken her.
And it helps her forget, she didn't take what Carlos taught her to heart, and is pretty much just another petty tyrant these days.
Oddly, Carlos favored her. But my advice to her would be, don't listen to stuff like this until you make some actual progress in sorcery, and can do something no one else believes is possible.
Then you'll have something to look forward to. More progress.
After that, go listen to what you like.
Good advice! Knowing and not doing, is the same as not knowing. I enjoy testing my reason and analytical process against wild and out there theories (Ancient Aliens TV show is a prime example). You have to chart the edges of belief to find the weak spots that allow entry into the inconceivable. But that time would no doubt be better spent in using every means available to force silence. The modern media landscape is difficult to escape, and has perfected continual distraction.
Someone sent me some quotes from Carlos, taken as private class notes. The comments Carlos made disturbed him. He didn't envision Carlos complaining about people and situations.
But it was just Carlos doing what he did; creating factions and confusing everyone, in order to decentralize power. And including tasty social tidbits no one could resist, to be dug up later on, perhaps through recapitulation.
But what I noticed most in the notes was someone's very long question, which Carlos had to cut off. He even explained why he had to cut it off.
Since then (23 years ago), there's been no change in that person's level of knowledge, despite being absolutely obsessed with alternate theories of the world, and having been taught directly by Carlos. Worse, the stuff picked up along the way insulates this person from changing. Anytime they might remember Carlos' instruction and decide to change their behavior, one of their alternate theories emerges to disagree with that idea.
Our corrupted Tonal will construct whatever it needs to keep us in it's limited worldview, terrified to leave it's echo chamber. I made a comment here https://www.reddit.com/r/castaneda/comments/bgb7r8/song_for_the_mood_of_a_warrior_the_ink_spots_we/emkhm23?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
that speaks to that reluctance/stagnation.
Carlos would surely have loved that quote. He might have even used it in a lecture.

Interesting bit here in the Revelations of an Insider:
>Someone who is lead by "malicious" forces cannot utter/write certain words, phrases without it affecting him. The ones who are lead by them also cannot accept hearing/reading certain things without getting overly mad/agressive (see the thread for examples). This is when "malicious" beings are present: Everytime you cuss, talk negative, plot a scheme, get violent, utter lies, support murder, get sexually aroused, get afraid, get jealous, even laugh out loud, being overly joyfull (so all related to emotions/passions/desires), they appear near you one, two, three, or more of them. "Malicious" beings are from this realm, this is their home. You cannot hate them for they are doing their task, their rightful duty and it is connected to your behaviour....understand, you are the perpetrator, they react. They never instigate, you do. If you do hate them you are missing an important part of the reality....respect them up to a certain point. This will also show you are conscious about them and that will be recognised. I type "malicious" because they are not malicious, they only appear to you in your manufactured perception to be so. People are perpetrators who play the victim part.
Seems to tally with some inorganic beings sharing some of the emanations present in man, though I can't quite make the connection.
Hey, CruzWayne, just a quick heads-up:
agressive is actually spelled aggressive. You can remember it by two gs.
Have a nice day!

Hey /u/CommonMisspellingBot, just a quick heads up:
Your spelling hints are really shitty because they're all essentially "remember the fucking spelling of the fucking word".
And your fucking delete function doesn't work. You're useless.
Have a nice day!

It is frustrating trying to tie these things together isn't it! I equate it to the "density of pearls" problem in most spiritual traditions or writings. Most require digging through a "pit of mud" (accumulated cultural baggage) trying to find that "pearl of great price (truth)." In Castaneda's work you almost can't read a single passage without having a pearl jump right into your pocket.
