I've just bought a leather weight for silence from some Tensegrity facilitators. Just willing to give it a try and see if it can add up to my current silence practice with crystals, for example, falling asleep with it while sustaining silence. Carlos has some words on it in the magical passes book.
"Other objects that those shamans searched for
avidly were flat rocks the size of the hand or pieces of heavy wood, in order to place
them on specific areas of
tendon energy on their abdomens while they were lying flat on their backs. The first
area is just below the navel; another is right on top of the navel, and another yet, on the
area of the solar plexus. The problem with using rocks or other objects is that they have
to be heated or cooled to approximate the temperature of the body, and besides, these
objects are usually too stiff, and they slide and move around."
"The other device, the leather weight, has been found to be an ideal device for creating
a steady pressure on centers of tendon energy. Unlike rocks, it is pliable enough to
adapt itself to the contours of the body. Its leather cover makes it possible to be applied
directly to the body without needing to be warmed or cooled. However, its most
remarkable feature is its weight. It is light enough not to cause any discomfort, and yet
heavy enough to aid some specific magical passes that foster inner silence by pressing
centers on the abdomen. Don Juan Matus said that a weight placed on any of the three
areas mentioned above engages the totality of one's energy fields, which means a
momentary shutting off of the internal dialogue: the first step toward inner silence."
I will report my experiences with it, if any.

I will. But of course, all those things and all techniques are complementary. It all comes down to the intent..

Today I also had a night dreaming, after a long while! I went to sleep trying out this leather thing with sustaining silence. Then I was dreaming of walking by some river, in a big valley. The sky was cloudy. I looked at my hands, and started Carlos' techniques moving between hands and objects. It lasted subjectively around 5 minutes! There was a voice telling me what to do, not to focus on the view of hands too long, and move my eyes often. I also came there to the realization, that I am in another Self, there was a strange feeling it is not the same me as in waking reality. And I was able to sustain the view of the scene pretty well, it was not fading away.

I'm going to try sleeping on my back with the leather weight on my diaphragm/base of sternum, and a medium-weight rounded river stone about 3 inches (7.5 cm) x 1 in (3 cm) thick, with a side that mostly flat, in each open palm. They should be oblong and not too round, so they don't roll out of your hands.
My thinking is it may be effective in bringing attention to the hands in dreaming (something also done while practicing the 'right way of walking' with curled fingers and eyes fixed just above the horizon), as well as entering sleeping dreaming in silence. I've not had much luck with a tight ring on a finger.
Problem is I've never been able to fall asleep on my back. Like at all.
But maybe someone else who can, could use this to good affect.
Update: larger heavier stones with mostly flat bottoms work much better; my first set took too much attention to prevent them from rolling out of my hands.

How many leather weights do you need at most for tensegrity passes?

Only one!
The leather weight can really only be used with passes done while lying on your back.
So "Running Man," some others of the not-doing series of workshop passes, and from the mapping series.
There are a few more suitable passes in the gazing series, as well as some in the various other series.
Suitable as can be done on the back (supine).
