The main disruptor of the second attention is inventory (as categorization of items and their properties). I love inventory as much as you do, but this doesnt push you into heightened awareness, just the opposite - pulls you out
The other major disruptor is almost the same - self reflective thoughts.
Edit : People under the effect of LSD show increased brain activity :
The EEG will probably show sleeping patterns without the overall reduction of activity of the frontal lobes , thats a guess

Hank Wesselman had himself tested while in the second attention in his book Spiritwalker:
He postulates a future where psychedelic experiences will eventually be launched by machines instead of the ingestion, inhalation, or injection of chemical compounds.
“You’ve gotta deal with the future because that is where you are going to be spending the rest of your life.”
“Most of human history shows that we only do things the intelligent way only after we have tried every possible stupid way and found out that none of them worked (or didn't have horrible side-affects).”
"Q: Essentially looking at how your intention and state of being influences what you’re building…
A: Exactly. For example, you look at all these concerns around AI, and the first question I think to ask is not about “What will the AI be?”, but rather “Who’s building the AI?”
What are their intentions? What are their hidden biases? What are their fears? What are they blindly (or consciously) building into the technology that could be grounded in ignorance or pain or suffering — whatever kind of psycho-emotional baggage we all have? I think there’s now an incredible responsibility on the part of people who are building these technologies to actually deal with their shit. If you don’t, it’s going to be baked right into the technology you’re creating."
In 10 years Elon Musk's Neuralink initiative is going to start implanting stuff into the human brain; giving a potentially huge advantage to those who take the risk and adopt it's use...and forcing others to also if they want to compete or even survive.

I think there’s now an incredible responsibility on the part of people who are building these technologies to actually deal with their shit.
It goes a little deeper than that... part of the bias is being selected by the researchers - reflecting the world-set of the researchers and reflecting the socioeconomic/cultural realities of the modern world , but the larger pool of data is drawn from the sea of human experience...
When the AI comes into existence it will be made from our reflection - humanity as a whole needs to get it's shit together... it may only love us as much as we love ourselves :|

Is there simple equipment to measure that at home?
I go into deep heightened awareness almost nightly, especially with Cholita on the run.
Maybe I could even find out if it changes when you have inorganic beings around.
Or intercepted dreams. They really aren't the same thing.
If I hit the jackpot, perhaps a portal to another world would open, and I could enter.
We could see what happens then.
I hope the equipment becomes disconnected!
But even if not, we could see if there's a difference for being in another cyclic being.

There also something called Cogwear being developed by researchers at Penn State, for the retail market I think.

Do you have enough understanding of that device to know if it's useful for what we're trying to figure out in here?
(Namely, how to cheat like a dog if possible.)
I guess I'm mostly worried about SNR.
For example, I have a "jeweler's eye" scope from 40 years ago.
It can tell you that a sapphire is NOT a sapphire.
But not whether it actually is.
The signal to noise ratio is too low.

Well in the past they had to practically shave someone's head and glue the electrodes to their now bare scalp.
I sincerely doubt if anyone who can actually dream awake has ever worn one of the retail ones, so your guess is as good as mine if the data would be at all useful or reflective of any recognizable or understood neural states.
The Medical/University ones are another matter, those and actual MRI scanning.
You don't know until you try.

Yeah, I have a emotive EEG. problem is it moves a lot when I am in the sitting up fall asleep stuff. And I have no idea how to work with it if I was laying down.'So as long as you can situp yeah it would work. It's bluetooth to a computer.
The ones that would work laying down seem to be to be the best. But I am not sure how various people enter the second attention.
Sleep study setups would work. Could do that in the sleep lab. I know a few doctors with those setup in their offices.

You won't find me in any lab, or doing interviews somewhere.
But if you can use it sitting up, that's perfect. I walk around most of the time.

I've been recording my brain activity for about about a decade now...
Some the more peculiar sessions I've recorded are:
12 hours of continuous REM sleep - typical pattern is ~30-45 min
8 hours of continuous deep sleep - typical pattern is ~15-20 min
'deep dive sleep' - a 45 minute dive into deep sleep and returning while maintaining consciousness
'sleep waking' - entering REM/other world state while being upright and conscious
'dolphin sleep' - bi-hemispheric mediation where one side of the brain is active and the other is in a meditative state
I generally spend most of waking hours in a meditative state, capable of performing daily tasks while maintaining meditative focus.
For sleep monitoring I'm using the Zeo sleep tracker with modified firmware and custom software -- ex: generating algorithmic soundscapes based on neural activity.
And for waking state monitoring I'm using the Muse headband with both the default app and custom software being feed data from the 'Muse Mind Monitor' app which outputs the data over the network as OSC packets.
The Zeo sleep tracker has unfortunately been discontinued, but you can still find used units for sale... I've been eyeing the iBand+ as a replacement/next-gen device but they've been plagued by production delays for several years now - if/when they finally ship I'll definitely be acquiring one.
I've also used the Emotiv Epoc, but it's a bit cumbersome and uses wet sensors - not ideal for all day use or sleep tracking.
General areas of research have been - consciousness training via active feedback, brain-computer interface, altered state induction via electronic means (audio/visual stimulation, binaural beats, etc), 'digital telepathy', dream sharing/social dreaming, and random artistic/musical endeavors.

I've have the emotive one. and shave my head anyhow so it's not a big deal with me.
I wrote some little programs that use thought or muscle movement to control computers.

I would be curious in seeing it.

Yes, probably the most interesting data set is the longitudinal sleep study (30 days of data) - I'll have to dig through my stack of old hard drives to find it. I have some newer data that has a recording of 'sleep waking', but I've become a bit lackadaisical with my scientific rigor regarding tagging my data :(
This is good reminder to for me to be more attentive with my data collection!
I'll make sure to post an update comment when I find the longitudinal sleep study data...in the meantime though here's some data from a perfectly boring night of sleep
