Does darkroom practice work just as well with a mask? What about just having eyes closed?

Ideally you want to do it with eyes open. My problem is I have no curtains and a street light outside my window hence the dark mask. You can keep your eyes open in this mask. I believe it will work as I can reach second attention with my eyes closed so don’t see why I can’t with my eyes open with a mask on but I’ll let you know how that goes.

That’s interesting. I would have thought that one would get the same effect if their eyes are closed or open behind the mask. I wonder why that is

You can get success with eyes closed, and eyes open, in pitch blackness, or slight darkness, or complete bright sunlight. For beginners pitch blackness is recommended because it can help the vividness and the longevity of the second attention sights. I’ve got this mask cause i don’t have a dark place. You can still have success with your eyes closed just. I like the idea of having my eyes open so I can look around a lot more freely. This mask allows me to do that in the pitch blackness which is semi-perfect beginner conditions. Perfect being pitch blackness eyes open with no mask.

It's intent. When closed, you are turned to face into sleeping.

When open, you are turned to face activity.

Outer versus inner.

It's a huge difference!

I'll give you an example I experienced last night.

I was doing tensegrity long forms, and noticed I could tickle the web, and uncover the inorganic beings realm.

It was right there, in front of me.

I was curious if I could uncover Cholita, my witch friend, who decided to spend the night in her room, instead of hiding somewhere else.

I wiggled my fingers against the light on the wall, and I saw a pink blob where Cholita's bed was located. I recognized the sparkle in the middle of the blob as being Cholita.

But I could also see furniture. Pink transparent shapes, placed around the living room which was next to her bedroom.

I played with that a while until I got distracted with something else.

After a few more hours of practicing, I went to bed.

I lay on my side with my eyes closed, and I could see the living room.

I only had to "turn" to enter it.

I blanked out on passing through the barrier, and forgot what I was doing.

I spent the rest of that dreaming a bit confused, as we all are in dreaming. And most is now lost.

I even ran into one of Carlos' inner circle who told me something.

Also lost. Not even enough of that memory, to know if it was just a phantom, or something else.

There's a big difference between the two! Eyes open or closed.

And with eyes open, you rarely loose all of an experience.

I'm sure it's only intent, but there's nothing we can do to fight against our latent intent.

Just ask the girls in bikinis that Juan ends up summoning.

Thanks. Does that particular book describe how to darkroom practice?

[-]
u/1solve_et 1 points 2020-10-16 16:22

No this just happens to be the book which I’m currently on reading thru all of them. I believe darkroom practice or ā€œZuleicas technique,ā€ is first described in ā€œthe eagles gift,ā€ which I haven’t read yet.

That technique is something I learned from this subreddit and which seems to be slightly altered and improved by old students of Carlos in this subreddit to make it easier and more accessible to beginners.

Could you point me to any specific guides?

[-]
u/1solve_et 2 points 2020-10-16 16:31

Yes everything you need and more you’ll find in the ā€œabout,ā€ section of this main subreddit. Please ask if you struggle to find that. It’s a great wiki resource. You want to start with the silence techniques and the darkroom gazing techniques. You should find multiple headers for them in the ā€œabout,ā€ section or ā€œwiki,ā€ of the subreddit. Please don’t hesitate to ask anything to anyone in here.

Alright I will. Thanks!

Also, if you just click on the sub fresh, the top post should be a collection of ā€œdarkroom practice,ā€ posts too! Sorry I just noticed that :) I’m not very good at Reddit sometimes.

Here's a competing product that's a bit more expensive and may work better with some people's noses:

https://goalfixsports.com/product/goalfix-eclipse-total-blackout-eyeshades/

Edit: multiple people have attested that they both create total darkness in lower light conditions, but have a few micro light-leaks when facing bright or direct illumination.

I prefer these covers from the (80's?)

you can tell that the illustrator actually read the book, as it's an accurate depiction of one of it's scenes

Ooooooo I’ve never seen those ones! Is there one for each in the series?

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 2 points 2020-10-16 19:03

There are many foreign language editions of each of the books. Each with their own cover art. Those pics are hi-res scans of my personal copy. I have more.

Have you seen the illustration from the mexican edition of The teachings of don Juan?

It's awesome.

Surrealist painter Leonora Carrington did the illustration specifically for the book upon request.

Yes!

But I didn't know it's backstory.

Now everybody does šŸ‘
