Just to correct you, the passage you mention is from A Separate Reality and is about don Vincente not don Genaro. It does not talk of a lesson but a gift provided by don Vincente's allies, or "those who are not people".
More important for you however, is that Carlos asks don Juan if the allies could drive a car or a bus and don Juan laughs it off replying they cannot act upon things directly, so they could not drive a bus or a car.

While it is a amusing story I think the real lesson here is that within every event there is something which can taken from it.
This is stalking, the ability to slow down time and squeeze every drop of juice from the fruit you can.
Sometimes the fruit is bitter and sometimes it’s sweet, the trick is having the energy available at the time to tell the difference.

The physical books do literally reach out to you. I can unequivocally confirm this. They are extensions of the sorcerer's intent, floating around in the world at large.
Something that is unfortunately lost on those that are reading solely electronically.
After seeing the unlikely resurgence of record stores, I sincerely hope that bookstores get their own revitalization.

Why don't you simply learn to do that daily? Or several times a day?
Don't obsess over a single experience for years and years, when you could have simply learned to get silent and activate your dreaming double. And walked right back to that place, if that was your interest.
Single experience obsessions are not good for the Castaneda community. It's filled to the brink with people who had a single experience, and then do nothing but talk about that for years as if a flashy experience were the key to sorcery.
It confuses everyone else. Especially the women.
The only useful message in the Castaneda community is as follows:
It works, if you follow instructions.
Which means, it works if you do.

"I met don Juan in dreaming" is a particularly troublesome story in the community.
Every ambitious male met don Juan.
The community almost died, and the teachings were almost lost, largely due to this misunderstanding.
That sorcery is learned by meeting someone else who gives it to you as a gift.
If you are interested in the books, put in the 3 hours a night.
And I suspect you'll drop a lot of your inventory baggage.
But if only mildly interested, you don't really need to put in the 3 hours.
Just finish reading the books, and study the posts here.
It all becomes very obvious if you only read the flow of information.
Sorcery is no mystery.
You can be the first "expert" who really understands, but has chosen a different path.
I don't know of any other paths by the way.
There's really nothing out there on the internet but pretending.
This is it for now.
Right here.

Fancy likes to stack stuff on my chest, to soak up energy.
It's one way the inorganic beings extract their "price".
I have an illustrated post about it. It's over here:
It's basically the tale of how to get yourself 2 inorganic being assistants.
Except being Jewish, he believes they are demons or angels. Or, maybe he doesn't, but it's easier to explain without bringing up that point.
As far as I know, inorganic beings are responsible for all spirits people run into.
Maybe there are "ascended masters" too, but I haven't run into any long enough to test what they are.
Demons, angels, gremlins, Fairies, Gnomes. All inorganic beings.
And they're far more common in dreams than people realize.
What they're doing in there puzzles me.
Fancy is perfectly capable of trapping me, putting stuff on my stomach, and sucking out energy for hours.
Why don't they do that to people who aren't practicing sorcery?
Could be, they need permission?
If you had that happen, I wonder if you didn't somehow give them permission.

U/charlescaster Any comments are not intended as discouragement to practice or comment further, but as a rudder to steer towards practice and away from consistent and usually specific pitfalls of fixation which are common to all.
Thanks for posting your experience. What stands out is your reading that portion of whichever Castaneda book it was, and then having the experience you had with "the Strangers" and their vehicle.....That you responded. It strikes me as a jolt or "knock" of the spirit or Intent. Or to use u/Danl999 analogy....that ancient Intent like rusty railroad tracks in an abandoned, forgotten,, and overgrown place unexpectedly appearing before you. I'll add that those tracks appeared in a world where people had long forgotten there were ways to travel other than by foot, or crawling.
We aren't necessarily seeking a syntax stimulating epiphany about what a specific appearance of those rails or knocks meant. It is after all the ineffable....What is important is the wonder that those "tracks" appeared in the first place, so we take note of it,, and are driven to explore , always on the lookout for new twists and turns, and places to clear up those tracks, our awareness the vehicle.

Yea, he has picked up a lot of outside "intent".
I wish he'd pay special attention to that issue in the posts.
It's what made me grumpy. I saw messed up intent.
It works sort of like this: If you pick a path that others have traveled, you fall into some kind of "reality groove".
Events will tend to repeat that situation.
If you focus only on the old seers, and you practice their techniques, you'll get periodic "gifts" from the spirit, along the path of the old sorcerers.
Your life will even re-arrange to that pattern, in some ways. My home is sort of turning into a copy of Zuleica's home, because of Cholita. I've been resisting picking up a Zoila to go with her. But one is available.
If in addition to the correct intent to learn Castaneda sorcery, you also have some "shaman's totem guides", or an "ascended master" in your mind, or even if you are a Jesus freak, your gift selection will change.
Instead of perfectly fine giant demon materializing in front of you, threatening instant murder (just laugh if you witness that), you'll get Jesus giving you a bedtime kiss.
Or a golden buddha.
It's easier to control a giant demon using sorcery, than it is to get Jesus or the Buddha to leave you alone.
None of those outside gifts will move you further along on the path of sorcery.
And if your inventory of outside intent is too large, you won't get any gifts at all.
Or if you do, they're too confusing to notice.
Perhaps, when the inventory is large, the gifts you seek are attention from other people.
So instead of a portal to another real world, which you can enter, you get an email from a friend on a new chat group where everyone is supportive.
It would be interesting to interview people in that situation, and ask for their most amazing experiences.
But typically, there aren't any to speak of.
I almost nightly break the laws of physics and do things that would anger religious people, or the "scientifically minded", just for hearing about it.
