Finding the third point
Misc. Practices
This practice is actually not mine. Once I read about it in a book and later I modified it to make it a bit more challenging. Basically, you take advantage of what Don Juan said, that we are perceptive beings. This is used here now to practice inner silence. In this exercise, you have to find the third point with your own perception. Or in other words, you have to create a third one from the first one and the second one. It may be an analogy for that you need to the first attention also the second attention to get to the third attention.
First practice: The first sign and the second sign are the same.
It's about looking at these two signs, slightly cross-eyed. The two signs will become blurred. At full image size, your head should be about an arm's length away. Maybe a little further away, but not so far that the signs become too fuzzy. But you shouldn't get closer, otherwise it's no longer comfortable for the eyes, which can even lead to headaches. You have to find a position which isn't straining and then everything is fine. The blurred signs will move away to the side. But there will be a point in the middle where one version of each of the two signs will overlap at exactly one point. Play around with your gaze until the middle sign has the same sharpness as the two originals initially had, before blurring. This requires concentration. And while concentrating to keep the middle symbol sharp, you may realize that the inner dialogue has stopped. Now you've found the third point by creating a third sign only using your perception. You can do this until it's so easy that there's even enough space for the inner dialogue again while you practice. Then it's time for the second practice.
Second practice: The first sign and the second sign are different.
You may consider the first practice as a preparation for the second practice. Your perception has thereby learned how it works to find the third point. The same procedure is used for the second practice, except that the two signs are now different. Only some lines are identical in order to have concrete clues for overlapping. When overlapping, the two different signs must result in the same sign in the middle, which is already known from the first practice. But this is more difficult because of the dissimilarity of the two signs. Two different signs must create a new, third sign. For this purpose, more concentration is required and therefore stopping the inner dialogue is more effective. Even slight inattention ends up breaking the middle sign.
And as you will notice, some lines seem to disappear occasionally, only to reappear later. It's like some magic... Perhaps the "magical lines" even seem to acquire a luminous, shimmering touch? Can you no longer trust your own senses? Does perception actually happen with the physical senses? It's definitely interesting to watch at this phenomenon.
By the way, you don't have to do these practices in front of a computer screen. You're also welcome to print out the images. I have laminated them and hung them on a cupboard so that they're at eye level when I sit on a chair in front of them.

one small correction, the third attention really isn't our purview. it's beyond what we experience in this life, by it's very nature...and really can't be talked about at all, beyond it's existence and what must be done leading up to that final transition.
there's more than enough to explore in the first and second attentions to occupy multiple human lifetimes
what you're getting at is a third-point perspective. apprehending two diaposing views, and slipping between the two to a third.
Oh, this exercise on internet maybe already 10 years. I found it when i searched for Aura seeing. But it was with a circles. Amm, as I remember Juan said almost every time to stay unfocused, but this exercise says different, so I don’t know. Would like to hear something from others who maybe tried it out a little bit longer. I didt it today and I noticed that it come in perfect shape (middle one) if I am almost falling asleep. In the moment of unconsciously closing my eyes.. buuut, i get asleep always if i do something like that, and thats an issue, because i cant go any deeper:D
No, this wasn't the original practice of those we're talking about here. Already the original practice was intended to find the third point, and nothing else.
"The Third point" is also the "depth" between you and your double.
It becomes visible when the double becomes visible.
Meaning, you've reached the very end of the J curve, just before the "unknown" purple zone.
You're in silent knowledge.
As a result, the double literally "becomes visible" from time to time, and you might even find him sitting on the edge of the bed for you, not letting you look into his eyes.
At that point, you can switch your memory back and forth. Sort of.
As you sit there in your physical body, and sense what the double is aware of, possibly recalling some of his recent memories, you have to travel through something to get from one to the other.
That's "depth", the third point.
It's "here" for you, "there" for the double, and "depth".
Depth is like traveling through awareness, to a new awareness.
Once you can see the third point, the abstract becomes visible.
The abstract is said to be indescribable.
However, my inorganic being Fancy said, nothing is indescribable if you just work harder to describe it.
Typically the abstract shows up very very bright, relative to other things in the darkroom. Like, light bulb bright, but in vivid colors and with no pain in the eyes looking at it.
If you gaze into it, it's a bridge between realities and you can even go back in time that way. Or to re-runs of someone else, and probably to your own memories. Certainly, back to the old seers.
Most of the destinations are "indescribable", as the story goes.
But if you force yourself, and allow 10% book deal mind to creep in, you can describe a tiny piece of it.
Such as, the right side is flat and about 4 feet long.
At that point it morphs into something fully describable.
I don't have anything against this diagram, but keep in mind.
Sorcery is not pretend. We don't have to invent "breathing exercises" to sell to people, or come up with new "explanatory diagrams", to attract web traffic.
It's actually real.
It's like nothing you have ever encountered, because everything else out there, is fake.
Or at best, delusional.
So the "doing" of fake esoterica, which is charts, breathing exercises, new "advanced" techniques, is not only pointless, but harmful to learning sorcery.
And no apologies or analogies are needed, to justify real sorcery.
When you see such a thing, like a "Dantian" diagram, or a pretty picture of the chakras inside a yogi, it means the person who made it doesn't understand, but wants to convince others they do.
It's book deal thinking.
Poison.
What do you think about the exercise that mentioned above?
Book deal mind.
Get it out of your head.
Sorcery is not pretend, and there are no "shortcut" exercises.
But it's ok that you posted it. Just don't delude yourself out of doing real work.
How about this? If you put in at least 1 hour in the darkroom, you can try to come up with "shortcuts", even though they're pointless.
If you don't practice, than it's bad player behavior.
Or at best, we're on the left, but you keep running right because everyone else ran that way.
We're surrounded by bad player behavior on the internet. It's all bad player behavior, no matter where you go.
So everyone feels entitled to behave that way also.
I'm always saddened to see that most of our new instagram followers are not only posting phony magic things, but often selling them too.
Such as, "Come purchase my 'breath work' course for a discount this month."
But, at least they're looking at something real.
The question is whether they decide to change their ways.
Is there nothing else without darkroom gazing?
We have at least 3 complete paths in here.
All lead to the same place.
I'd be tickled pink if you tried chair silence. One of these days I'll draw up a diagram of how magical it can be.
It ends up like this. No kidding!
I've done that myself! It used to be my main technique, until I realized doing things with your eyes closed never got you to the point that anyone would believe you.
But for yourself, it's amazing!
Find, "Simple Silence Technique" in the wiki.
I'll make a nicer picture later.
Then there's recapitulation. Here's the magic you can do with that:
https://www.reddit.com/r/castaneda/comments/l3me39/accelerated_recapitulation/
And
Please as you look at those, consider the weird, "Chakra" pictures they put up in yoga studios, where a guy in diapers has jewels glowing inside him.
That's made up nonsense. And the proof is, you can't find any teachers of that out on the internet, with excited students discussing the amazing results.
You'll just find more angry pretending, as you do in the subreddits for such things.
Every single thing in those pictures I showed you, is something you yourself will get to experience, as often as you like.
That's 3 paths.
The 4th is Juan's. Daytime gazing.
Unfortunately, no one's ever done that from the beginning.
Juan started in the dark room.
And, it has the drawback of needing to "go somewhere" to practice.
An added burden on practice time.
But pick one, actually put in the time, and it WILL work.
If you just want to visit in here, it's not good for others.
If it was just you hanging out, not actually trying hard, that would be fine.
But we get 2 a week like that. This place would be destroyed in a few months, if someone didn't point out that sort of behavior.
Which by the way, is ok everywhere else. Because, it's all pretending elsewhere, and the goal is sharing with friends. Not magic.
When it doesn't work for someone who came in here, it's because the person never actually put in the effort, despite what they claim.
It simply cannot fail to work. Might be harder for older people, people born to parents who weren't excited to have sex, or people who have damaged their bodies in some way. Or have an illness.
But, sorcery is reality. More than what we believe reality is.
So given a chance, it comes out.
Still, people don't like to admit they're lazy.
In the other "systems", 20 minutes a day is considered a good effort. They aren't going to work anyway! The 20 minutes is probably just so that you'll keep taking workshops, and not realize there's no way that's going to lead to anything.
Besides the "book deal mind", there's another more sinister force which attacks sorcery.
Something so devious and evil, there's no fighting back against it.
The "Dog ate my homework" mind.
I did few times Simple Teq. But without a stones, I am falling asleep all the time..
Falling asleep is not bad, it's good!
Did you read the whole thing? Try reading it twice, until it all makes sense.
Falling asleep at first is inevitable! That's what makes it the fastest path.
Because you can use the falling asleep to find the "Edge", where the dreaming attention is active.
The head bobbing thing is especially good.
If the problem is lack of actual sleep, consider caffeine tablets for a while, to make sure it's not merely being sleepy that's causing you to fall asleep.
The stones don't keep you from falling asleep.
Their purpose is to keep you from fantasizing.
Fantasizing is a huge problem.
It's not completely the same thing as the internal dialogue.
But closely related.
The pain in the fingers, gives you a fantasy of pain in the fingers.
That's why that works.
But you still have to force the silence, stones or not.
About fantasizing. Imagine this. I did it last night.
My inorganic being "Mystery" had taught me that playing with puffs of color should be done as continuously as possible. Don't play with a puff, then congratulate yourself for a few seconds.
The instant you put that puff on your torso, find another immediately.
Skim the entire room!
After a half hour of that, my body was literally on fire. I looked down at it, and tried to figure out if I could match that look using fluorescent paint ball paint, so I could take a picture of it and share it here.
But, you can't see such a thing, if your internal dialogue is active.
I was fantasizing, not thinking. About which color I'd place where, to get the subtle tan color around the stomach.
I had to force myself not to do that, and continue.
Eventually I was skimming the wall for "objects", then inserting them into each other so I could see what "Phantom Intent" was coming from the combination.
While I was doing that, which by the way was beyond description, I realized something.
Hey! Cholita tricked me today. She's a stalker! And she always fools me.
Again, no words. My internal dialogue was off.
I had one world in my right hand, a world composed of a single object and the "intent" it gave off in the form of telepathy.
In the other hand I had Fancy, and was trying to stuff her into the little world in my hand. She didn't seem to want to go.
Mystery was supervising.
And yet, I was still fantasizing about Cholita.
It's probably why Fancy wouldn't let me stuff her in.
The stones, or crystals, or stick, are all just an obvious fantasy to keep you busy, so you don't engage in other fantasies.
But don't tell anyone that.
They actually fall for those objects!
Like a carpenter falling in love with his hammer, or taking up collecting antique hammers; it just doesn't happen if you're actually using it to build a structure, the process or end result is what you're focused on and geared toward. It allows you to do your job, therefore you appreciate and respect it.
The collector of antique hammers is likely someone who never built a thing in their life, and just fancies or fetishizes hammers or stories about carpenters.
The stones are a dependable aid for helping us work with intent; their history of use is also hugely advantageous.
You could drive nails with a chunk of concrete, but you'd tear up your hands and get tired MUCH faster.
Such are the stones with intent. They're an efficient tool, for those prone to become lost in mental fantasizing and neurosis, once first hand experience affirms yours are optimal.
(in short, if you're too smart for your own good you could use a method that's dumb as rocks!)
Sources for Stones, if you can't find any in your area
And I'm waiting on baited breath for some longer quartz crystals from China's main crystal/silicone region. I've found the shorter 1"-1.5" ones line up very painfully with my larger finger joints, making them hard to use for over an hour.
Well, the practice I've described is just a non-doing. Analogous to how you can teach yourself to find the third point, you can also use this to teach yourself inner silence. There's no shortcut there. Likewise any other non-doing isn't a shortcut. Just one possibility.
In my case, I rediscovered inner silence without this practice. So in truth, you don't really need this practice. But it works. That's all.
If it works, why can't you get silent?
Reminds me of the cellphone guy.
Had a cellphone app to teach silence. Came in here selling it.
I had to smack him down.
I knew for a fact, he couldn't actually get silent. I'd been trying for years to get him to put in some work, but he never did. Just kept pushing his product.
You can't get silent either, or we wouldn't be having this discussion. We'd be having a much different one.
Don't try to be a "teacher". It's really ugly in here.
I'll have to suffer through another head explosion.
I'm so tired of those...
Sounds good! Like!
