Not all visitors in the darkroom are inorganic beings, or even phantoms.
I don't think anyone should worry about it. At beginner's levels, you won't run into anything other than those two.
You have to be into silent knowledge to notice the others.
Or asleep...
Here's some relevant quotes:
***********************
The other kind of energy I found present in our world but alien to it was the scouts' energy; the energy don Juan had called sizzling. I encountered scores of items in my dreams that, once I saw them, turned into blobs of energy that seemed to be frying; bubbling with some heatlike inner activity.
"Bear in mind that not every scout you are going to find belongs to the realm of inorganic beings," don Juan remarked. "Every scout you have found so far, except for the blue scout, has been from that realm; but that was because the inorganic beings were catering to you. They were directing the show. Now you are on your own. Some of the scouts you will encounter are going to be, not from the inorganic beings' realm, but from other even more distant levels of awareness."
"Are the scouts aware of themselves?" I asked.
"Most certainly," he replied.
"Then why don't they make contact with us when we are awake?"
"They do. But our great misfortune is to have our consciousness so fully engaged that we don't have time to pay attention. In our sleep, however, the two-way-traffic trapdoor opens: We dream. And in our dreams, we make contact."
"Is there any way to tell whether the scouts are from a level besides the inorganic beings' world?"
"The greater their sizzling, the farther they come from. It sounds simplistic, but you have to let your energy body tell you what is what. I assure you, it'll make very fine distinctions and unerring judgments when faced with alien energy."
He was right again. Without much ado, my energy body distinguished two general types of alien energy. The first was the scouts from the inorganic beings' realm. Their energy fizzled mildly. There was no sound to it, but it had all the overt appearance of effervescence, or of water that is starting to boil.
The energy of the second general type of scouts gave me the impression of considerably more power. Those scouts seemed to be just about to burn. They vibrated from within as if they were filled with pressurized gas.
My encounters with the alien energy were always fleeting because I paid total attention to what don Juan recommended. He said, "Unless you know exactly what you are doing and what you want out of alien energy, you have to be content with a brief glance. Anything beyond a glance is as dangerous and as stupid as petting a rattlesnake."
"Why is it dangerous, don Juan?" I asked.
"Scouts are always very aggressive and extremely daring," he said. "They have to be that way in order to prevail in their explorations. Sustaining our dreaming attention on them is tantamount to soliciting their awareness to focus on us. Once they focus their attention on us, we are compelled to go with them. And that, of course, is the danger. We may end up in worlds beyond our energetic possibilities."
Don Juan explained that there are many more types of scouts than the two I had classified, but that at my present level of energy I could only focus on three. He described the first two types as the easiest to spot. Their disguises in our dreams are so outlandish, he said, that they immediately attract our dreaming attention. He depicted the scouts of the third type as the most dangerous in terms of aggressiveness and power- and because they hide behind subtle disguises.
"One of the strangest things dreamers find, which you yourself will find presently," don Juan continued, "is this third type of scout. So far, you have found samples of only the first two types, but that's because you haven't looked in the right place."
"And what is the right place, don Juan?"
"You have again fallen prey to words; this time the culprit word is 'items', which you have taken to mean only things, objects. Well, the most ferocious scout hides behind people in our dreams. A formidable surprise was in store for me in my dreaming when I focused my gaze on the dream image of my mother. After I voiced my intent to see, she turned into a ferocious, frightening bubble of sizzling energy."
Don Juan paused to let his statements sink in. I felt stupid for being disturbed at the possibility of finding a scout behind the dream image of my mother.
"It's annoying that they are always associated with the dream images of our parents or close friends," he went on. "Perhaps that's why we often feel ill at ease when we dream of them." His grin gave me the impression that he was enjoying my turmoil. "A rule of thumb for dreamers is to assume that the third type of scout is present whenever they feel perturbed by their parents or friends in a dream. Sound advice is to avoid those dream images. They are sheer poison."
"Where does the blue scout stand in relation to the other scouts?" I asked.
"Blue energy doesn't sizzle," he replied. "It is like ours; it wavers, but it is blue instead of white. Blue energy doesn't exist in a natural state in our world.
"And this brings us to something we've never talked about. What color were the scouts you've seen so far?"
Until the moment he mentioned it, I had never thought about this. I told don Juan that the scouts I had seen were either pink or reddish. And he said that the deadly scouts of the third type were bright orange.
I found out myself that the third type of scout is outright scary. Every time I found one of them, it was behind the dream images of my parents, especially of my mother. Seeing it always reminded me of the blob of energy that had attacked me in my first deliberate seeing dream. Every time I found it, the alien exploring energy actually seemed about to jump on me. My energy body used to react with horror even before I saw it.
During our next discussion of dreaming, I queried don Juan about the total absence of inorganic beings in my dreaming practices.
"Why don't they show up anymore?" I asked.
"They only show themselves at the beginning," he explained. "After their scouts take us to their world, there is no necessity for the inorganic beings' projections. If we want to see the inorganic beings, a scout takes us there. For no one, and I mean no one, can journey by himself to their realm."
"Why is that so, don Juan?"
"Their world is sealed. No one can enter or leave without the consent of the inorganic beings. The only thing you can do by yourself once you are inside is, of course, voice your intent to stay. To say it out loud means to set in motion currents of energy that are irreversible. In olden times, words were incredibly powerful. Now they are not. But in the inorganic beings' realm, words haven't lost their power."
Don Juan laughed and said that he had no business saying anything about the inorganic beings' world because I really knew more about it than he and all his companions combined.
"There is one last issue related to that world that we haven't discussed," he said.
He paused for a long while, as if searching for the appropriate words.
"In the final analysis," he began, "my aversion to the old sorcerers' activities is very personal. As a nagual, I detest what they did. They cowardly sought refuge in the inorganic beings' world. They argued that in a predatorial universe poised to rip us apart, the only possible haven for us is in that realm."
"Why did they believe that?" I asked.
"Because it's true," he said. "Since the inorganic beings can't lie, the sales pitch of the dreaming emissary is all true. That world can give us shelter and prolong our awareness for nearly an eternity."

If my consciousness stays there forever. Will I lose my memory? 😁
You'll gain memory.
But that's the same with the other alternate exit avenues 🚪
The last few nights the thick white fog that covers the entire room has been showing me two states. This calm state where there doesn't seem to me much activity and then a state where it's like the fog is boiling and bright no matter where I turn my head.
Edit: was actually going to make a thread later to ask about this. Know what's funny? I've only read 1 of the books yet I could give this similar description without knowing beforehand. This proves Carlos was a legit as they come, if only people would practice but I guess it's easier to just drag his name in the mud.
So try considering the two states of the white fog as 2 different things.
We pay a lot of attention to puffs, to streaks, to inorganic beings.
But you can also back off a bit, and pay attention to the background a little more.
Here's an advanced idea that will be impossible to understand, but I'll implant the idea.
You have to "do something". Otherwise reality ends.
It's natural to become obsessed with what you are doing, as if that were the only thing you could do.
But the possibilities for what to do are infinite. Some human, some alien.
In the darkroom, keep yourself open to other possible "doings".
Focusing on the background is one other doing you can easily work with.
I've formed 8 stable backgrounds. On a good night, I can summon them in order, without any effort on my part.
Amber, grey, white, black, purple, yellow, blue, and "crowded".
Once you treat them like a "thing", you can focus on them until they pull you into silent knowledge.
The puffs are like objects, and they hypnotize you into silence.
The backgrounds are like a monitor, and you only get to view what's on the monitor, with full silence. So the background tends to push you harder.
At some point they can become more like windows. Filled with activity and beings.
I went looking for the sizzling type of being last night. I didn't find any, but I did get a lecture from the normal type of inorganic being, explaining that I want to stay away from those other guys.
Of course my reaction was, "Why? Are there any nearby? Which direction?"
His head jerked indicating a man near by who had his back turned to us.
A wind blew it all away the instant I started to look that way.
Let me add something here for beginners:
"The place of no pity" is not a position of the assemblage point, where you no longer have sympathy for other people.
It's not even related to that.
The pity is your own.
Feeling sorry for yourself, which is the very basis of our internal dialogue.
Every word has a core of self-pity behind it.
This shows up in the darkroom as a barrier to practicing longer. You just feel sad, like you're wasting your time, and want to go to bed.
If you pay attention to the background in the darkroom as a surface, it's easier to understand this self-pity thing.
Let's say you have enough experience to summon a whitish fog that has a lot of "static" in it.
If the static is vague, you still feel bad. You can even be looking at whitish light so strong, you have to go over and look at the windows to make sure it's not leaking in. It's that real. You might even be able to make out the bed, in absolute darkness.
But it's not enough to remove the self-pity.
The self-pity is a position of the assemblage point. Or a lot of them is more correct.
Anything above the red line is full of pity. Sometimes it might not seem that way, because you're in a "good mood" that day.
But if you have a cold, or any other weakness, you can feel the truth of it.
Until you move your assemblage all the way to the bottom, and up a tiny bit on the other side, self-pity is fully active.
What it looks like in practice is, you're gazing at a "surface" you removed from the darkness, as a "thing".
While it has no substantial "texture", you feel self-pity.
When it starts to get "chunky", or has strong lines and details, even if you can't make them out, the self-pity starts to vanish.
The assemblage point has moved almost far enough to get rid of the false idea of "self".
When the whitish light is filled to the brink with places, beings, and fully visible "visions", the self-pity is gone.
And you can't imagine why it fooled you again. It feels so real at the time.
Beautifully said Dan, that's exactly how I feel when the white fog is still and not boiling.
So last night funnily enough the room as usual was covered in the white fog, I slide down on the bed like and adjusted my gaze like I was looking upwards slightly then I scanned the room and realized I could start to vaguely make out the furniture in the room. I replicated this 2 more times before I wasn't able to again. The second time when I looked in the corner of the room it was like someone splashed solid green paint in one spot this last less than a minute. I noticed the same thing the previous night but this was on the ceiling and was less time.
Odd. I was seeing green last night too.
I don't see much of that.
As for the light on the bed:
Remote viewing...
But it's a "speciality". If you go down that road, it completely deviates your darkroom practice.
So don't.
But here's the procedure; Just find the whitish light on the bed. Sit up calmly on pillows, so you can gaze down at it. Better if the bed is clear, like, a bedspread with nothing on it in your immediate field of view.
You want to be able to reach down and pick "things" up.
Gaze at the light, keeping it in mind, and force even better silence.
If it takes on a texture, you're getting there.
At some point, you sort of "zone out". Not blank out. But you no longer care what you see.
A scene will form of the bed. A little bit at a time on occasion. YOu look at the whitish light, and you feel like you can see part of a road. But mostly it's just vertical lines.
You look to figure out if you are really seeing a road, and a tiny care is visible.
At that point, the entire scene forms.
If you can keep yourself "zoned out", it will become a very vivid aerial view of another place, and you can make it scroll whichever direction you like.
(Chased Cholita a few times that way.)
And even more cool, you can reach into the scene and pull out buildings or people.
You can set them on the bed next to you, and they stay there.
Sort of...
I suspect the ones that will remain more than 10 seconds, have been taken over by a scout.
When you extract a building, check to see if it has any intense dots of colorful light.
Those might be the source of some forms of visual static.
Not the building. Just the dots.
I've been trying to choose the best surface to gaze on. I'll do as you suggested and use the bed, if I use the ceiling or the walls next to me I might just lose consciousness, thanks Dan.
Floor works too. Juan's done that. In fact, in the darkroom it's not uncommon to be sitting on the edge of the bed playing with puffs of color, and you look down at the floor and are afraid you're going to step on a skyscraper or a person walking along the sidewalk in NY.
I can't imagine another teaching or system where they have this kind of power. You can literally leap down into the scene (when intent allows it).
Which is one reason I don't like to hear the term OBE.
Which body are you out of? Do you even know the difference?
Do OBEs always start with the attention getting thing where you are floating about yourself in bed, or is that just a nice book cover?
If you're still in your own body sitting on the edge of the bed, and you reach your hand down to the floor to touch a swimming pool on the top of an expensive hotel, is that an OAE?
(out of arm experience).
Maybe, OBE = confused attention seeking experience?
We have a spooky story guy back here today. He's got the same mindset.

IOB's are everywhere, and being in remote places heightens our primal awareness, engages seldom used emanations, and generally makes contact with IOB's more likely.
And they do like water!
There's more than one reason why Don Juan dragged Carlos through deserts for years.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/dye15y/map_of_missing_people_compared_to_map_of_cave - and Caves are potentially even more conducive to contact
[deleted]
If that were true, we'd all know about it.

He writes bigfoot books!
How come you've been in here nearly a year, telling the same story?
What do you want, for someone to agree with you? What thrill will that give you?
Will it make you feel more important to have seen something supernatural?
It's not even as interesting as a random 10 minutes in darkroom gazing, where things far more magical than your story happen. All night long, over and over.
But you keep pushing "your story". At least 6 months, but I suspect very close to a full year.
Why?
What has that to do with this subreddit?
Do you care if you harm new people by convincing them it's fun to get attention with spooky stories?
Do you think this is a "spooky story" subreddit, and most of it is made up?
You haven't noticed people are trying to learn magic in here? And that it's the ONLY place on the internet where you can actually do that, for real?
What exactly are you looking for in here?
Go try the Zen subreddit. It doesn't make any less sense than telling your story here.
Or perhaps, the Zen subreddit makes even more sense, because no one over there can summon beings like you're describing. So they're clueless about what that was.
We aren't.
I must have seen 20 things like you described last night.
And even weirder and more cool.
Wouldn't you like to learn to do that?
You won't the way you're going.
You keep running around in circles chasing your tail, hoping for a scooby treat.
This isn't the "Mystery Machine" van.
Why aren't you over in a subreddit like that?
[deleted]
(This is not about Junior BEBA. The post from the guy this is about is gone. He was hanging around for nearly a year, soaking up attention, but with no interest in sorcery at all. That's fine elsewhere, but not here because there's real magic available to learn.)
****
You'll never learn sorcery with this mindset. And you have absolutely no interest in learning it. You're interested in attention.
That's not unusual. The "tall tales" market is big, and people enjoy reading about spooky stuff.
But this isn't a "spooky stuff" subreddit, or else it would cease to exist.
And obsession with getting attention is fatal to sorcery. Just a hint of that in the mind, prevents magic.
Also, spooky stories exist on the basis of false information, and lack of sobriety.
Your stories are full of false claims, given as if they were obvious.
We don't have that kind of audience in here.
See if there's a "false narrative" subreddit. That's what you want.
(He's private chatting me with more "cool spooky experience" stories, backed up by so called indian shaman experts on spirits. Not sure that's obvious here, but he's long been obsessed with stuff he never takes the time to investigate. Just likes telling the stories.)
It's a scary important jump from retelling the spooky stories of others, to honestly working toward having your own. It means you can't claim it's all just out of reach any longer. And it's shifts to no longer being safe.
That damnable 21st century pestilence of a word 😡
It's also the moment when you start to assume co-responsibility over your own experience/existence in the universe.
Maybe it's a form of humans needing the unknown to be happy.
Stories about the unknown.
But one might imagine, when we were in our natural state (hunter/gatherer) you might have found people sitting around a campfire, telling spooky stories.
Except back then, the spooky story would be more like practical advice you could actually make use of.
Knowledge about the environment.
Now it's just a vague, mostly untrue rumour to add to your list of things to fuss about in your head. And to get a little reaction from others while telling it, even though for them the information is equally inapplicable.
It's the absolute opposite of what's needed to learn sorcery.
Sobriety.
Unfortunately, to the average person our subreddit looks like that. Imaginary stuff that has no application to anyone.
Could be why orion guy ended up here. We looked flaky to him.
But adding some actually useless info in here is not good.
People will dismiss this place if we get too much of that.
There are already 2 "big fry" bad players out there, looking for any excuse to put this subreddit down, and keep people away from it.
I'm pleased to say, they couldn't dismiss it based on "it's not true", or "people are lying".
It's too obvious if you look around in here, that's not what's going on.
But even something like, "Man, they were talking about bigfoot the last time I looked in there" could be harmful to someone trying to escape bad players.
I've never thought about it in those terms. But yeah the pretending to be friends and family is prevalent with me. I thought it was because I don't auto attack those people. Can usually catch on to them when they feel bad and appear to be family, etc. They seem to couple that with childhood or very familiar locations.
going to have to reevaluate the reasons I thought they were there.
I dont get the can't lie stuff. pretty sure I have hear lies or half truths coming from them.
> I dont get the can't lie stuff.
Some of what don Juan told Carlos, was part of the flow of intent for Carlos.
And we have yet to know how universal it is.
A good example:
Josefina worked with La Gorda in darkness for a few days before either of them saw any colors.
But once Josefina saw them, she zipped right into a patch.
(I've done that, so it's not as crazy as it sounds).
La Gorda did not.
Now let's say, it was just Josefina in that room.
Zuleica could tell her, "Yes, that's the way it's always done."
It has the advantage of not giving Josefina a big head, and also makes her feel like things are going well, and she's learning properly.
So it's actually the better thing to say, if you ignore the obsession we all have in the normal world, with telling consistent facts so that we aren't criticized later on.
An obsession that causes as much trouble is it prevents. Especially for sorcerers.
Thus stalking (lying to avoid negative interactions at an energetic level).
I think u/monkeyguy999 meant that he didn't get the statement that the IOB's never lie, or can't lie.
Something about a lie not having an energetic basis or something?
I was hinting at, maybe not everything in the books is true. Some might just be how don Juan was teaching Carlos, and Carlos simply reported what he'd heard.
Not necessarily knowing if it was true or a teaching fabrication.
Keep in mind, the first 4 books are FILLED with teaching fabrications.
But I must admit, I haven't seen an IOB lie. And both Fancy and Fairy told me things that seemed unlikely to me, but later on they turned out to be right.
Personally I find it hard to believe that just saying you want to stay in their world traps you.
It didn't trap the death defier!
And we're supposed to assume the IOBs are too stupid to realize he did a sex change?
Even I can spot those in the grocery store line!
Man, if we could figure out how to teach that, we could get our own books on the "Personal Transformation" shelf!
It's super trendy.
We could call the book, "Inclusive Sorcery".
Maybe even insist Miguel is a homophobe for not teaching that technique in his first book.
An artifice that leads to the truth, especially if that particular truth cannot be directly accessed from our current state of awareness.
Or, as pointed out by you, there is worlds of separation between reading a fishing magazine and actually catching a large mouth bass on a fly rod in a crystal clear stream on a sunny day.
Man, we could cash in if we could master that sex change maneuver!
We could get all the hot "woke" women.
I'm afraid Cholita isn't going to go "woke" any time soon.
One time she was explaining the social order in Mexico City.
Admitting it's openly racist in Mexico.
If you are pure spanish, and your father works for the government, you are as far up on the social order, as you can expect to be without a bunch of corruption in your family history. As in spanish royal ruling family governor corruption, from long ago. Really old stuff left over from Spain.
Some of that is still around!
Cholita's mother was pure spanish, and her father worked for the government as an engineer.
But her father was pure blood Olmec, not spanish.
Oddly, the "pure blood" part cancels that out, and they were well off socially.
Below that is peasant class. It's a little murky to me.
Below that is black.
But below that is Chinese.
I suppose the Chinese have been traveling there for hundreds of years, and became associated with cheap labor in the form of household servants.
Like the cook "Hop Sing" on "Bonanza".
I asked her if that was universal all over Mexico, but she said Mexico was sort of divided into upper class in the middle south, and "hickville" up north.
It has "accents" associated with being a hick.
But, some of the accents are associated with beloved movie stars, so those hicks are considered "fun".
Bottom line: They're not woke yet in Mexico.
Dreaming asleep with the “Pintura de castas”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casta#Pintura_de_castas
I am still wondering about the third type of IBs. I wish there was more in the books. The one I met into full aware dreaming was at first an item then by focusing on it It turned into someone I know and ran into me. The energy was like electricity and buzzing. I felt a pressure and I knew I had to “fight back”. I almost lost my dreaming attention. Twice. But in the end I “ won” , the energy “ melted” before me with still a bit of Its awareness because when I asked what did It want the buzz was so loud I woke up here.
Months , years passed by and in my dreamings now and then I am getting fully aware by looking at someone dear to me that died. Her mere presence in dreaming and I am fully awake. At first seeing the familiar traits was so painful that the dreaming ended fast. Then it’s like a switch was flipped in me and I started to interact with that IB who was the same whom attacked me. I sometimes hear voices , advices ( into dreaming) and I know it’s from It.
Who would have known they were even interested in women and that they could be allies ?
🙏
I only remember la Gorda mentioning her interactions with IOB's (IB's). And that Taisha had two of them she nicknamed Phoebus and (Globus?).
But then there really weren't that many passages detailing Carlos's interactions with female sorceresses except Florinda Matus, Zuleica & Zoila, la Catalina, la Gorda, and a few of Carlos's fellow female apprentices.
The male and female apprentices seem to have been trained mostly separately.
Yes that’s why I cherish so much the witches’ books.
For IBs I meant that I didn’t know the third type could be of some use and particularly to women. I am sure though we can have allies , IBs but again there’s so few about it and it’s ok I am not really on the Toltec path. I try the best I can to align to whatever I face , myself and Intent my “ have to believe “.
Maybe we can only understand (at the time) half of what they tell us.
Because bright orange is in the same part of the energy spectrum as pink and red, it probably means that the scary higher energy scouts are not the dreaming bodies of organic beings.
The blue scout was an organic scout.
But then again our color is amber (closer to red), but our dreaming body was described as whitish, as I recall.
IOBs in the dark room have "hues".
I was trying to learn to tell them apart by the hue, but so far I can't do it.
I don't think you posted this table of hues on Reddit
