This is so interesting danl999, I like that you bring a different perspective; I feel like Carlos Castaneda meant impeccability and discipline as stopping indulging, breaking routines and habits, especially the ones that consume large amounts of our energy, and drain us of our power, making us miserable. But i understand your point, this word and concept is easy to misunderstand like when he said it doesn't consist on waking up to get cold showers, but adapting to changing situations with strength. Maybe you can clarify this, or explain what do you understand by "impeccability" in the sense that you dislike?
Also i have a feeling that oftentimes we miss the mark about this and get caught in a loop fighting with ourselves without really being able to break out habits, making it a matter of guilt and thinking, such self pity as shown in addiction groups of people who spend their lives focused on their perceived "misdeeds" in shame.

You just stopped reading at the early books, that's all.
Read the rest of them, and also the side publications like, "Silent Knowledge".
And then take an honest look at the Castaneda community, and ask where the magic is?
And why if there's absolutely no magic, people keep doing the same old thing over and over again?
If you can't see that there's no magic, read around here more, look at the pictures, then read the books again, and find the corresponding place where that type of magic occurs in the books too.
So you remember what got you interested in the books in the first place: magic.
And ask yourself, are you ok with the entire meditation, witchcraft, weird stuff, and lucid dreaming forums saying, "Carlos Castaneda was thoroughly debunked!"
When in fact, several in here already kick the Buddha's butt.
And make the Dali Lama look like a con artist.

Bad Player Post Please don't do this (sorry!!)
Not sure what you mean by magic, as it is my understanding that it is ultimately intent and one's mastery of it. Mastery comes from being an impeccable warrior. This means (to my limited knowledge of this) acting in a way that conserves and makes energy available to you to break the mirror of self-reflection and gain direct access to intent (magic?)
I agree it is disappointing that his work is not taken more seriously, as it is so fascinating, and there are so many unanswered questions. Cannot help but feel that over-emphasis on cc and his reputation distract from the true nature of what he uncovered, which goes far beyond him or anyone else. But that is where the Eagle has brought us, no?
"Our lot as men is to learn and, as I’ve said, one goes to knowledge as one goes to war; with fear, with respect, aware that one is going to war, and with absolute confidence in oneself. Put your trust in yourself. There’s no emptiness in the life of a man of knowledge, everything is filled to the brim and everything is equal. For me there is no victory, or defeat, or emptiness. Everything is filled to the brim and everything is equal and my struggle is worth my while."

Yes, my mini-book deal: a single comment, with a direct Carlos quote, on a sub with less than 3,500 followers. Glad you think my writing is good, though, and seem to have already volunteered to be my editor ;)
You seem triggered by the mention of impeccably. It is discussed at length throughout Castenda's writings, which is why so many people, including myself, focus on it. Can you elaborate on what exactly is your issue with it as a concept? Why is it so predominant in his writings?
I primarily stick with reading Carlo's direct works (except for magical passes to understand the movements better) because the space is filled with so much nonsense and new age flakes. So I hope I have not been negatively impacted by the "anger Castaneda community" (maybe I have by ppl in this sub who claim to "make the Dali Lama look like a con-artist," :) The insignificant amount of knowledge I have has impacted my life tremendously, which I am grateful for. Apologies if my comment caused any harm. I did not realize I was that important ;))

Yes, my mini-book deal: a single comment,
You haven't been reading around in here, because you don't understand a topic that comes up over and over again.
So if you aren't here to learn, why are you here?
Are there so many places like this you have your desire to learn satisfied, so you didn't bother to read much?
Can you point me to them?
>I did not realize I was that important ;))
Maybe because you aren't a long term follower of Castaneda and haven't watched the whole thing fall apart.
And maybe because he didn't lament about it to you, just as he was dying.
Take your attitude elsewhere. You aren't interested in learning at all.
You're likely on some weird ego trip that doesn't include actually doing any work.
It's 95% of the community.
I suppose it's 95% of all weird practices communities.
So go join your like minded friends elsewhere.

Your presumptions are impressive, like that I have friends lol.
Are there so many places like this you have your desire to >learn satisfied, so you didn't bother to read much?
As mentioned I don't read/follow much outside of Carlo's direct works. I did join this sub and would like to learn, like in the below question. (Seems like it would take the same amount of energy to answer or provide links than to reply with attacks no?)
Maybe because you aren't a long term follower of Castaneda and haven't watched the whole thing fall apart.
And maybe because he didn't lament about it to you, just as he was dying.
Is this because he could not fulfill Silvo Manual's task in "The Eagles Gift"? Did he ever share what that task was?
Would a true man of knowledge care so much about the opinions of others? It seems to be in direct contradiction of Don Juan's teachings like the quote I shared from "A Separate Reality" in my original reply above.
When in fact, several in here already kick the Buddha' butt.
And make the Dali Lama look like a con artist.
Carlos ought to get credit for bringing real magic back to the world.
Does attacking a religion the way you don't like people attacking Carlos truly further the cause of restoring his reputation? It comes off as petty.
The Castaneda debunkers main points are that Castenda's books are not consistent with Yaqui traditions. But Don Juan's teachings are not Yaqui. I think that is the main point to bring to Castaneda debunkers.

We aren't trying to be men of knowledge. Those were the bad guys.
Even your inventory knowledge is defective.
What's your deal anyway? Why are you in here?
And now you're going over very basic old stuff people used to argue against don Juan. The stuff long resolved and fully debunked.
Go away!!!!
You don't need to seek attention in here.
Get some clown pants at the used clothing store and go scare small children.
Or find another place where nothing is happening, and you won't harm anyone.
You can play superior guy over there.
Why do you have to plague this place?
If you want to be helpful, tell us where you came from, so we never attract attention over there again if possible.

If you believe you want to learn sorcery, you should know you aren't even on the same planet.
You're off in attention seeking land, fantasizing about "Men of Knowledge".
But because you're too lazy to put in actual work, you keep the idea in the back of your mind that you're "above it all", because you listen to the criticisms of Carlos and his books.
So in no way are you even on the starting line to learn anything.
Not committed, in case you end up looking like a fool because someone proves Carlos was a fraud?
I've got news for you. This subreddit proves the opposite.
But you don't seem to have a good enough of a grip on reality, to realize what's in here is nowhere else.
Do you believe this is common, and you can simply try something else if you make enemies in here?
Maybe instead of a "man of knowledge", you can be a "Lama"?
You're so wrong it's very sad. I always hope there's a spark of actually wanting to learn, in men like you.
But it never turns out to be so.
I see you defending other things, so that must be the case. That you believe this is common.
You believe there are "lots of opportunities" for you to reach magical greatness elsewhere?
So why care about this place. You can piss on it if you like. There's plenty of trees to mark, in the huge park.
And you attack the person who brought the material here, which you claim to want to learn from. An actual student of Carlos.
Only one of two left standing.
If you did decide to get serious, would you go around pretending to be a "man of knowledge"?
Go "shaman" on everyone? Get some eagle feathers for your hat?
Is that what you want?
A mental superiority trip?
Then you make fun of actual magic, as if it were party tricks.
I'm thinking troll.
Or mentally ill.
But, for your sake, if you really want to learn sorcery you have to change your ways.
Every aspect of them.

I'm going to try to figure out how to completely avoid the constant attacks.
3 times a week for a year it's been!
Less is no good. It has to be possible to stop all of them.
(Engineer Dan talking.)
There was nowhere at all out on the internet, with actual working Castaneda techniques.
Nothing at all! Anyone who was intelligent would look at all of it, and conclude Carlos was a fraud. Because no one ever learned anything beyond pretending.
Everyone was just doing the "Men of Knowledge" or "impeccable warrior" pretending, and instead of discussing tips to make that actually produce magic, the men were endlessly arguing about who's knowledge of the books was better.
My thought was, if I die and this is all that continues, the books will forever be considered a fraud.
The reputation of Carlos was in the toilet. Nowhere was there any evidence what he was teaching actually works. All search results on google came up with, "He was thoroughly debunked".
So I owed Carlos to fix that. To at least let people know, it all works exactly as he described.
I thought people would get excited, to see that it actually works.
Unique in the entire world, I didn't charge money, there are no videos or books, I don't do interviews. I try to make new teaching materials daily, if possible.
And I'm celibate, so no women.
There's absolutely nothing in this for me!
Find me someone doing that! I bet you can't.
They all have their hands out. Or live off donations from followers.
Shouldn't that be good for a few points?
But instead, the crazies came out of the woodwork to attack.
They sensed it was different in here, and that made them all the more anxious to get attention here.
I've got one of them stalking me on reddit now, and flagging my comments to get them removed. He looks at my profile, finds any comment I made, and tries to destroy it.
He said I was ruining Castaneda.
Not trying to fix it.
Because it was fine with him when no one could do anything. Then he could make any claim he wanted. And worship Sadhguru too.
He came in here, attacked every single person with his claim sorcery drives you mad, posted until he had to be tossed out, and is now on a paranoid delusional revenge trip.
So don't tell me to lighten up!
That's like telling someone who gets mugged everyday, just trying to get to work, to lighten up.
You never even put in the time to figure out what was going on in here. You just started commenting to get attention.
Didn't even notice that bit about don Juan wasn't Yaqui is fully debunked over in the wiki on the side.
I'm thinking you put no time at all in to this. And so, why did you comment?
But you did accomplish one good thing!
Maybe we can ask for a questionnaire, to be filled out by people who pass the new automod, but their initial comments violate some simple rules. Indicating they're primarily here to cause trouble, not to learn.
Everyone in here knows who that is, if they did any reading over a few months.
It's obvious on their first comment, this guy is not here for any good reason.
(The only good reason is to learn).
They should have to fill out a questionnaire to clarify why they are here, if they:
Completely misunderstand the purpose of this subreddit (such as implying anyone would want to be a "Man of Knowledge".
Try to repeat the debunked negative info on Carlos, which is already covered in our wiki. If they have a new complaint, and it looks reasonable that might worry someone, that's ok. But if it's the debunked stuff, that indicates a bad player. Especially something as stupid as "don Juan's teachings are not Yaqui". Hey! They're working!!! Didn't you notice that?
Try to misrepresent ordinary dreams as sorcery experiences described for waking states or dreaming awake states. Indicates someone too dishonest to actually learn in here.
Try to argue against a technique which produces practical magic, that is, real magic you can see, using quotations from the books to "discredit" it. That indicates an inventory warrior mostly motivated to be top dog.
Get their feelings hurt if I comment on another teaching that constantly misleads people (nearly all of them). It indicates they're only "supplementing" their "knowledge", and won't be able to learn sorcery. Naturally if they actually like something else, but don't make a public effort to try to defend it, that's fine. That probably includes everyone, until they see enough magic to realize what the real thing is like. People have been taught that it's ok to mix things. Our situation is unique. We can't mix things (much).
I'm thinking, whatever someone new might say that is harmful to beginners, and will only have a negative impact on the learning in here, can be figured out in a set of rules.
Violation of which by a new poster causes them to have to fill out a questionnaire designed to find people only causally aware of what's going on.
A questionnaire like:
Why are you here?
Where did you come from?
What is your goal?
How long have you been interested in this topic?
What's our favorite color?
Last one was a joke. Jeremy actually does that on sustained action, before he'll let you have full access.
Maybe it's just to make bad players angry.
That's not an ideal list, but certainly it's possible to smoke out bad players with a decent list of questions.
It's not like a bad player is going to take the time to look at the material in here, so he can cheat the test.
And certainly it's possible, maybe over time, to figure out the rules which trigger a questionnaire.
Anyone who won't do that, isn't really interested in learning here.

It would be possible to completely eliminate bad players by making the subreddit restricted. Meaning anybody that wanted to post or comment, but wasn't already joined, would need to be individually approved...after responding to a questionnaire, like you suggest.
But I don't have that kind of time. Juann and Lidotska don't have that kind of time.
We are all still very much students.
Such an imposed burden on top of that is too much for us to shoulder. It would f*ck up our chances.
We would need a dozen or more moderators.
But I did do a cursory search to see what the possibilities of automod are, and there are some interesting things that can be done. This is just one result:
But they are complicated and will take time, and possibly someone with more technical acumen than myself to modify it.
[-]
u/danl999
2 points2021-06-25 22:19
The questionnaire shouldn't add any burden to the mods.
The person has to actually comment something, after automod allows them, that's obviously an issue we already face with bad players.
And it only triggers them filling out a questionnaire. And someone has to notice it and report it. So no need for mods to read everything.
I'm happy to review those questionnaires, since I usually get burdened with trying to get them to leave. It'll be easier if there's a "reason" they had to leave.
I'll check out the automod link you gave.
I'm interested in the technology also.
Always.

You need their "source code"???
That's not good.
It will never keep running. Big tech these days doesn't worry about backwards compatibility.

I do machine learning. You could, in theory, train a model (like they do for spam emails) to provide a 'bad Player score'. However, it would need to be trained on existing posts/comments manually labeled good/bad. Not sure if Reddit has an API to facilitate that.

Dan, you are a prolific writer and are amazingly committed to the cause. Sorry again for any stress or harm I may have caused. I have edited my original post with a bad player header. I like the questionnaire (especially the favorite color question!!).
The bad player post is long (over 5,700 words in the main post only) Does it make sense to have a condensed version that is given to new ppl as a 'welcome please don't bring this here' type packet?

u/danl999
4 points2021-06-25 23:24
Yea, I sort of knew you got too much butt kicking.
As did everyone else reading it, I suppose.
You're forgiven, or if that's presumptuous, I apologize.
Whichever works.
You proved /u/tabdrops worry that a non-bad player could get labeled as such, just because he behaved as was perfectly normal everywhere else.
Which is frankly, another reason to automate this if possible.
By the way, which kind of tabs is tabdrops dropping???
Owsley's gel tabs?
His daughter gave me a little box of those in the 90s. I never ate any. But they sure were cute. I was sorely tempted to give them to Carlos. Maybe if I had, one of the Chacmools would have learned to move their assemblage points.
But I didn't want him thinking I was using power plants.
I suppose we could have some initial reading material as you suggest (but shorter).
Except that adds work for the mods. Because they'd have to make sure they read it, and we get perhaps 50 new people a week. Too much work for them.
And no bad player ever reads the bad player link.
In fact, when I do a new bad player post in here, typically 4 heads explode in rage without even being called out. No one even knew they were in here, but they interpret it as an assault on their person.
Techno dreads a "bad player" post. It's like hearing, "Fire in the Hole!!!"
But this place can't exist without the mods. Can't burden them if at all avoidable.
I'm not allowed to control the place, although I've nearly crossed the line lately.
I live under pretty strict rules that would make no sense to non-sorcerers.
But then, I go home and there's a fire demon waiting for me in my bedroom. I have to answer to her.
For real.
Carlos also lived under strict rules.
When he died they asked him what should be done with cleargreen. The teaching organization he set up.
He said, he didn't care what happened to them.
You'd have to have some sorcery knowledge to understand that statement.
Doesn't mean what it seems to.
Of course he cared. He even tried to set up protection for those he left behind.
What he meant was, that's out of my hands now and I don't want to influence it beyond my ability to see first hand. If it's meant to be, the force of intent will make it work.
But, Cleargreen broke their link to intent, by suing Miles. So they never saw magic and just kept teaching the same old tensegrity exercises, with no explanation what to do with them. Magic free workshops is what they had.
I was one of the "backup plans" Carlos set in motion, in case of horrible failure.
Could be others out there.

Nice try. But nothing like that. It's the result of a not-doing. For not-caring how cool the name would sound. Preferably impersonal. So I chose the first two terms that came to my mind without having thought about it: "tabulator key" and "dropdown menu".
EDIT:

Like Dan is suggesting you wouldn’t really understand even if CC was resurrected and told you to your face. I recommend “true” sleep deprivation, so what I’m about to say will be controversial, but it will work. Walk to an arco in the worst part of town and wait there with a lit cigarette right at twilight for the broke meth addict (he or she will be skin and bones) to arrive. When he or she asks you to bum him one give him a pack with a few cigs and a roll of twenties it, tell him to take “one”, and then ask him if he wants to chase a rainbow with you. After 32 hours you’ll know the answer to your question.

As mentioned I don't read/follow much outside of Carlo's direct works. I did join this sub and would like to learn, like in the below question. (Seems like it would take the same amount of energy to answer or provide links than to reply with attacks no?)
It would be nice to end the flow of angry men on ego trips.
Nah I will leave that to you and your magic. Do you do parties?
Thanks for your time.
Dude, come on, lighten up. You teed up that comeback so perfectly I could not resist.
I will look to change my way, as you mentioned it is difficult. Again thank you for your time.
This is just one result:
https://www.reddit.com/r/modhelp/comments/cdtqdv/comment/ety03wa (?)
But they are complicated and will take time, and possibly someone with more technical acumen than myself to modify it.
Always.
I looked.
You need their "source code"???
That's not good.
It will never keep running. Big tech these days doesn't worry about backwards compatibility.
Microsoft can't even figure out how their copy and paste buffer ought to work!
I have to take special steps since their last update, because they paste 2 copies of everything into web pages.
EDIT:
Might fit to your questions. Why someone chose which name.
Sometimes I wonder if bad players don't often have an autoname given by Reddit.
The ones with perfectly formed words plus lots of numerals on the end look computer generated to me.
