REQUEST - does anyone in L.A. like libraries and feel like doing a bit of digging?

There are two missing articles from the list of referenced Magazine Interviews that we have collated from online sources (including Nagualist Newsletter, who outsourced requests for publications of interest in the mid-1990's).

People did a good job of finding copies of most of them back in the day, skipping the ones that were harder to find. Several of those have since been located, or are currently being acquired, but a few are likely lost to time as there are no known publicly available sources for either physical copies or digitized versions.

But these two are likely accessible to someone living in Los Angeles:

Carlos Castaneda the Witch of Westwood. Michael Ventura. L.A. Weekly. October 4-10, 1985.

Castaneda Postscript. Michael Ventura. L.A. Weekly. November 15-21, 1985.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, and are close to a larger library that has a microfiche room, it would be great if you could find a few hours to spare and track down (and make copies of!) these articles, so that the community can get a sense of things in the mid-1980's, which were a bit of a desert as far as press from Carlos is concerned.

The other two articles that are likely impossible to find:

Being-In-Dreaming. Body, Mind & Spirit #6, November 1992 - No full version of this exists, just a few paragraphs that Corey Donovan put into his Chronology Pages. Can barely even confirm the publication existed, much less find this interview with Florinda.

Searching for Carlos Castaneda. Rick Fields. New Age Journal. June 1985. (nothing available...)

Google started a project to digitize everything.

I hope they've kept that up.

hello everyone,

i'm new here and i haven't tried darkroom practice yet - so most of the time i'm just reading here.

i found possible sources of some of the old magazine articles and created a reddit account, so that i can post the links here. unfortunately the la weekly articles are behind a paywall (\~20$ for a single month) and at the moment for some reason i can't login or create a new account at archive.org and see the "Searching for Carlos Castaneda" article.

Body, Mind & Spirit Magazine

New title for former Psychic Guide Magazine, adopted with the November/December 1987 issue. The title reflected the broad identification of editor Paul Zuromski with the New Age movement. Address: Box 701, Providence, RI 02901.

Working Wiki pages for the LA Weekly articles. The blocks of text will have to be broke-up into paragraphs again:

https://www.reddit.com/r/castaneda/wiki/magazine_interviews/la_weekly_nov_1985

And for the New Age Journal. June 1985:

FANTASTIC! The LA Weekly pages on newspapers.com, have an apparent workaround to access the actual OCR'd text of the article, so no paywall is absolutely needed unless you really want to see the scans of the original paper.

But we just want the text for the Wiki and the compendium file. Referencing those pages as the source is fine.

And it looks like that New Age Journal issue can be borrowed for an hour. I'll give that a go later and see if I can make some high res screen shots or type it up in that time.

😎

And yea, that Body, Mind & Spirit magazine had a ridiculously low circulation, apparently.
