Both paths lead nowhere; but one has a heart, the other doesn't. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you.
Before you embark on any path ask the question: Does this path have a heart? If the answer is no, you will know it, and then you must choose another path. The trouble is nobody asks the question; and when a man finally realizes that he has taken a path without a heart, the path is ready to kill him. Have you ever asked yourself what you'll do when you are filthy rich?
Will you be a good man, and give to charity?
Will your friends respect you more or less?
You know what... who cares? Thinking about how you'lll behave with wealth isn't going to get you some.
On the other hand, if youre at a workshop and there's a $3000 hooker ($5000 in moderrn times), like the one who used to come to LA workshops when Caros was around (Carlos tried to get her to join up, but she was making too much money on the $3000 tricks with some guy on a yacht), you can make very good use of the "path with heart" bit.
Just walk right up to her, open your arms and say, "Path with Heart hug?!"
She'll be forced to do it by social pressure.
A few of the men in private classes were saving up pennies for the hooker, but she only lasted a few workshops.
I believe she considered herself to already be on a path with heart.
When the head thinks about how a path with heart would be. Without deep silence experiences it can't be figured out. There won't be the right feeling to hook up.
Edit: People usually associate or implicate a path with heart with self-pity. They don't get the coldness of sorcery fitting to the heart. Which leads to mental masturbation, indeed.
It's the MAGIC that makes it a path with heart.

Humans need magic.
Once they start to have some, and can get more, it transforms their purpose in life.
They have something to look forward to, all of their life.
Even getting old and looking old, no longer matters. Because that age is now associated with sorcery powers.
That's the "heart" part.
It takes someone who cries themselves to sleep at night, without their "medicines", and turns them into someone who walks between worlds, with their spirit friends at their side.
Running around swapping hugs at workshops, is NOT a path with heart.
It's more of the river of filth. Delusional false narratives holding you down until you finally drown.

When don Juan told Carlos about the path with heart, he didn't say it to him the way someone who likes Castaneda books might have heard it.

Carlos reached silent knowledge almost immediately in his instruction.

So that "path with heart" lecture was in a context we NEVER achieve.
Like "losing self importance". That too is meaningless without internal silence.
But this sort of "wise saying" is like every other system out there, which sells pretending.
Mental pacifiers for the mind.
In the Western world, during the past few decades at least, we've come to view esoteric and spiritual (dislike that term) matters as a self-serve buffet.
As a result we're overstuffed with the esoteric equivalent of colored marshmallows, and perpetually unsatisfied, because we only ever eat parts of the overtly appetizing food we put on our plate.
But it's only the stuff that's not immediately appetizing that can actually sustain us, and keep us lean and fierce...rather than continually needing the next new thing that we believe could be better, and always just around the corner.
Now you have me wanting those Trader Joe's dark chocolate covered marshmallows Cholita likes to hide from me.

I suppose the closest I ever get to a "path with heart" is trying to figure out where's she's hidden them this time.
Even though I like this particular passage, I don't really feel, or sure that I actually understand it fully. I guess knowledge will come...
The way I see it, that as Don Juan said: all leads to nowhere .
Pass can be as crazy as one can imagine, or as beautiful and poetic... the main grand idea is that it( pass) chosen by once feeling. And one important aspect is that it's been tested again and again...
I don't believe it has something to do with assembly point, but this is how I look at this dilemma.

People don't realize their suffering from the "please love me" syndrome, which keeps them in self-pity. If it's an important thing for you making a difference between heart things and ulterior things, then it's mental masturbation. The self-importance just numbs self-pity, which may you feel a bit happier. People do this all the time. For your example, even a place of love (for having a good time or such) can be just an ulterior motive. It's obvious with enough inner silence, within one second. Didn't even need to think about, the body just knows it. So, your example isn't applicable in general. It just describes a certain mechanism between self-pity and self-importance. That's all. And besides, for sorcery purposes it's even an useless mechanism, nothing more than "a nice to know" thing. Just inventory in the end. Doesn't lead to entering the 2nd attention. Or getting an IOB. It doesn't even lead to inner silence. So, it's a wrong path. There are as much wrong paths as useless mechanisms existing.
A real path with heart would mean mapping out those coherences. As the people in here did for you. For keeping you from getting trapped. Regardless being liked or not.

I'm afraid you're misinterpreting Don Juan's teaching. And maybe confused about who I am because I haven't been "alerted" about anything. I appreciate the effort but I'm very familiar with the teachings and you seem to have a slight misunderstanding. Have a good one!
