In the Journey to IX book. DJ and carlos run into the apprentices. They all sit with their left feet tucked in.
What exactly does that entail? The foot just tucked in like indian style? Or the left foot put under the butt? Something else? And what do they mean by "...sorcerer used when things are uncertain..."
Like any of these olmec statues? Added a few more I though were interesting. Like the sleeping one and odd sitting positions. Some I think I vaguely recall from the books.

I recall from one of the books a remark by DJ where it had to do with the place where a non-western person stored memories: in the back of the thighs by the natives versus the chest area in western culture people.
Btw, the fourth image from top down has a couple of interesting things, one is the position of the hands engaging in manner done in one of the passes internal silence; the other one is the head dress - kind of sort of like proto egyptian.
I can attest, first hand, that i store memories in the chest area. In my initial interaction with an IOB, i saw four strands of glowing purple-ish, then whitish light flowing from my chest area to the IOB. I lacked the sobriety at that moment to process what was really happening; it was the tingling feeling of creepy crawlies all over my body that freaked me out. I did get a pleasant burst of dark energy, though.
That position brings the right calf (one of the more useful energy centers) as close to the second attention assemblage point, and to the Silent Knowledge position, as possible. That point is centered a bit less than arms length out from the area just below the navel and 4 inches (10 cm) to the right.
So the left foot bit is just to get it out of the way? Could you not then just stick the left leg straight out and bring the right calf in to the correct distance?
Or am I missing something?
I don't see why not.
I think the reason it's shown with the left leg either tucked under or pulled in, is so you could theoretically get up quickly and take off. Something anatomically very difficult or impossible to do with the other leg stretched out.
The Olmec's were always outside, and there were Jaguar's and other dangers.
That makes sense. Been inside too much. As a kid running about the woods I would of thought of that immediately.

Like so?
Sitting with one leg raised
It also puts the right thigh closest to the center for immediate action, which can be handy during uncertainty.
That’s how I’ve always imagined it. Someone correct me if it’s wrong.
This is a good read concerning postures.

This looks great. I just ordered it.
Bon voyage!

You realize that's just some random guy, not even involved in this sub, peddling advice as though they were an expert but doesn't know crap?
There is more written on this sitting position - The Fire From Within, Ch. 9, pg. 149:
"We were all still laughing when the bushes by my right side were suddenly stirred. Don Juan and Genaro immediately sat down with the left leg tucked under the seat. The right leg, with the knee up, was like a shield in front of them."
"Sorcerers have their own quirks," he said in a whisper. "When the assemblage point moves to the regions below its normal position, the vision of sorcerers become limited. If they see you standing, they'll attack you."
"The nagual Julian kept me once for two days in this warrior's position," Genaro whispered to me. "I even had to urinate while I sat in this position."
"And defecate," don Juan" added.
Genaro proceeds to show Carlos how to take your pants off while staying in the position, which later turns out to be him clowning. Then "the bushes separated and a most horrendous creature came out."
This passage comes across like the position is a defensive posture to me, i.e. "when things are uncertain."
According to Nelida in "Stalking with the Double".
Instantly I dropped the rock and looked up petrified, panting
instead ot breathing. There in front of me was Nelida. I received
such a jolt to my midsection that I feared I had to go to the bathroom
on the spot. Nelida told me to immediately assume a half sitting,
half kneeling posture that sorcerers use in moments of great upheaval.
She helped me tuck my right leg under the crotch with my right foot
pressing the perineum; my Left knee was bent and my thigh and calf
were pressed to my body.
"Use this posture of protection whenever you received a fright or
jolt," she advised.
