Running Man - Tensegrity Pass

(1/23/2020 - The animated gifs below are displaying on the Reddit Mobile App, have to be individually and manually tapped-on to display in mobile web browser (Android Chrome), and no longer display at all on desktop browser. However, when I go into the post to edit it on desktop browser, all the images show up and animate again...grrrr....make up your damn mind Reddit!)

So here's a link to a gallery/page where everything is animating. All downloadable:

SERIES - MAGICAL PASSES FOR NOT-DOING

Pomona Workshop, CA 1998

The Running Man

Note: these passes are performed lying down with the calves taut and the toes pointed towards the ceiling. Always start with right side. The inactive leg may be bent to relieve back stress. Lift head whenever necessary. Use the abdominal muscles. The mat should not be too soft. It was said that this pass is considered to be sufficient. However, if you (or your body) want to do the other’s from the series "then do them!"

It was performed to the music of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Should be no problem to source in the age of streaming audio and YouTube.

01 - The Independent Rotation of Each Foot: Legs outstretched on mat. Begin outward circle with right foot. When about half of the right foot’s circle is completed, begin an outward circle with left foot. Keep the rotations independent and not synchronized, with at least a second between them.

Running Man 01

Running Man 01

02 - Pointing Forward With the Tips of the Toes: The toes bend forward as though pushing a pedal; the other foot is flexed slightly back. Alternate the feet each time in a continuous movement. Keep legs straight on the mat.

Running Man 02

Running Man 02

03 - The Inward Circle: The Inward Circle: The feet describe inward circular rotations, synchronized.

Running Man 03

Running Man 03

04: The Outward Circle: The Outward Circle: The feet describe outward circular rotations, synchronized.

Running Man 04

Running Man 04

05 - Dropping the Tips of the Toes Toward the Center of the Space Between Them: The feet are rotated inward, the heels never leaving the mat, so that the toes point at each other...the legs are spread wide enough to prevent the toes from touching. The toes should never go to the outside, beyond the vertical. Contract the muscles of the thighs. Performed in unison.

Running Man 05

Running Man 05

06 - The Side-to-Side Movement of Both Feet: The feet turn from side to side in unison, like windshield wipers. Keep the legs straight.

Running Man 06

Running Man 06

07 - The Dog's Tail: Legs slightly retracted. The knees are slightly raised, to allow the soles of the feet to face one another with the outer edges on the mat. Keeping the heels on the mat, vertically raise both feet from the ankle using a sudden contraction of the muscles of the thighs. In unison. The outer edges of the feet tap down gently on the mat. Raise the toes several inches each time.

Running Man 07

Running Man 07

08 - Drawing the Feet Together: Legs outstretched on mat. Flex both feet, with toes pulled backwards. The legs start in a V shape, and slide inward and outward laterally from the hips, keeping the calves taught. Performed in unison.

Running Man 08

Running Man 08

09 - Pulling the Hamstrings: Legs outstretched on mat, the toes are pulled back as far as possible for a short time, creating tension on the hamstrings, then released. Performed in unison.

Running Man 09

Running Man 09

10 - The Pedal: One foot is pulled back as the knee raises, keeping the sole pointing forward (not on the mat), and then sliding on the heel to straighten while the other is retracted...as if pushing a pedal. The legs/feet alternate.

Running Man 10

Running Man 10

11 - Splashing the Other Foot with the Soles of the Feet: One leg is held taut with it’s heel staying on the mat, as the other foot is raised very slightly with a jerking motion...scooping and splashing toe-level awareness onto the other foot, up to the level of the ankle. The feet alternate.

Running Man 11

Running Man 11

12 - Rubber Feet: In a certain way it looks like a reversed “frog kick.” Start with both legs outstretched on mat, the feet slightly pointing to the sides. The heels stay on the mat as the toes and feet flip out to the sides while they are retracted by bending the knees. The outer edges of the feet and legs are kept on the mat. The ankle is the pivot; the knees tend to slightly raise and lower naturally as the feet spread to point to the outside. Performed in unison.

Running Man 12

Running Man 12

13 - The Lull: Lay perfectly still and turn off your internal dialog. Let the 'lull' guide your awareness into dreaming.

Is there a pdf or google drive or YouTube or something I should bookmark that has all these instructions and gifs and vids etc ??

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 1 points 2020-01-19 20:16

They're all hosted here. I made sure each gif, as well as the video, is natively hosted on Reddit.

So they won't be taken down, as long as the post exists. And since a Subreddit can't be deleted once it's been created, that should be as long as Reddit exists.

[-]
u/EvilScotsman66 1 points 2020-01-19 20:17

You mean all of the transegrity moves in totality are somewhere on this reddit?

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 3 points 2020-01-19 20:20

No. (edit: at least not yet!...since you gave me the idea/intent) Dan said that Castaneda taught him around a thousand, most of which he's forgotten.

I just had these media files in my archive, and noticed that the Archive.org pages had been stripped of their images.

Thought it best to add someplace where they could be preserved.

Check this Wiki Page and scroll down for the main official videos of the passes in the book, as well as a link to the book in PDF form:

And this Wiki page, under Tensegrity Workshop Notes. Drill down and you'll find a lot more:

It's going to sound crazy or bragging, but I'm the person who created those animated gifs, decades ago :)
Not joking.

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 3 points 2020-01-19 20:18

And now they'll have a pemanent home on Reddit. That is if you don't mind?

[-]
u/activeside 6 points 2020-01-19 20:22

Not at all! Thanks for posting!
And of course, I don't have the original 3D files any more. I can't even remember which software I used for creating those animations.
I started to do the same with the Intent series but I never finished it.

[-]
u/stoneknife56 1 points 2024-08-25 03:37

Thanks for making these. If my memory is correct Running man passes were kind of secret stuff and there were absolutely no descriptions available on the net at that time, late 90's. These animations were the one and only guide available to us living elsewhere than the US. Thanks again. Looks like these were made in 3D max.

Yes, I only started to work on those animations a long time after the workshop in LA, once Cleargreen kinda gave us the go to practice them in groups.
I used this software called Poser, which only purpose was to animate human body characters.

This series is fantastic. The trick is to make numerous repetitions to reach saturation. I remember sometimes we were doing 100 counts per magical pass during certain group practices.

u/Separate_Onion_1822 1 points 2024-07-08 22:42

I remember you, the French man. We just came from the 1998 Los Angeles seminar and people were so curious asking you things about it and you were very “radin” - you were not going to share what you paid for “you see” 😝… I just recapitulated this and found that you made these with a program called Poser…

[-]
u/activeside 1 points 2025-02-17 01:43

Ha! Where did we meet back then?
Were you part of one of the European practice groups? Did you come to our practice in Paris?
I remember at that time, Cleargreen was very adamant that practitioners shouldn't share magical passes right after workshops with other practitioners. That's probably why I was reluctant to show this series.

[-]
u/jd198703 3 points 2020-01-19 21:25

There is also this pass video with Renata Murez in Cleargreen video library. Would be cool to hear from Dan on those not doing series, lying passes.

I recall the idea was to saturate yourself with 5 series from the book, and then move to these not doing series.

[-]
u/danl999 3 points 2020-01-20 21:54

Which video? Have a link?

I still don't know what's up with Renata. Sometimes I see her talking on video, and realize she's doing the "sweet" thing from stalking.

(I just threw up in my mouth a little.)

And then I realize, don Juan's party was divided into two planets. The planet of the stalkers (oops, hurled again), and the planet of the dreamers.

One things for sure: Renata has made sure tensegrity will be around a long time, in the Eastern Bloc.

I'm curious what's up in Mexico itself. Anyone know if they've perpetuated Tensegrity in South America? I had some correspondance about their compound.

I'll have to send Cholita down there one of these days. If they can survive her. Better take down the shower curtains.

But I'm really curious about Yulia Chi and her photographer. Brazil I think?

[-]
u/jd198703 2 points 2020-01-20 21:59

This video is only available for 50 bucks subscription. You can find this video library on their website, a lot of series there...

But as I know this group what was uploaded by TechnoMagical_Intent here is decent enough to try and analyze. Thanks for uploading!

[-]
u/danl999 3 points 2020-01-20 22:31

So that's the price of sorcery!

$50.

Maybe I'll send my little fairy out to the freeway exits, with a tin cup and cardboard sign.

"Will Hover for Food"

[-]
u/jd198703 2 points 2020-01-21 08:46

Yeah, ~50 for a month... But as you can see movements are not so complex, so the gif here does the job quite well.

[-]
u/danl999 3 points 2020-01-21 18:19

Also, Tensegrity doesn't need to be precise. That becomes obvious when you learn to see the energy move around.

Some specific points are important, like when Carlos says to tense the legs, and other such details.

[-]
u/jd198703 1 points 2020-01-19 21:26

Thanks for posting it. Do you practice this series yourself? Maybe you could share some experience?

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 3 points 2020-01-19 21:27

I'm broadcasting my intent to do just that. Report back later...

[-]
u/jd198703 3 points 2020-01-19 21:29

In my case I was doing those for some time before going to bed. Those brought me a good relaxation and some more inner silence than usual.

I will join your intent and try them with my new mode of practice enhanced by Dan's techniques. Also will report.

thank you!

[-]
u/danl999 3 points 2020-01-20 21:13

Guess what?

They work!!!

Even these completely lame tensegrity passes produce visible displays of light and redeploy energy, to make it easier to assemble other worlds.

I tried some last week after someone joked about them.

Let me tell you what was said about these passes in private class:

  1. Carlos has cold feet due to diabetes, so he came up with these.
  2. He has to wear socks to bed; these help get the circulation going.
  3. He's dying from liver cancer, this is the best he can do.

Shit!!!!

His private class was the most miserable assortment of broken and sociopathic people I've ever been around.

Except, every other yoga or Buddhist cult I've spent time with.

While I'm at it, and at the risk of offending some private class lurkers, there sure were a lot of gay men in class. I'm not so sure about lesbians. Cholita starts to fret if I ask about that. I think she was "pressured".

These passes just gave me an idea. I shouldn't be giving myself a thumbs up. I should be lazy, like these tensegrity passes, and get my Fairy to do it for me. Eventually maybe she can fly to the fridge, and get me a beer.

My fairy has come back, but she remains flat.

I had a tug of war with her last night, around 4:30AM. She came to visit, but then started to sneak out, in the direction of Cholita's room.

I told her that Cholita was crazy, can't she stick around with me for a while?

Nope. I tried to grab her, but she isn't solid anymore.

u/TechnoMagical_Intent 1 points 2020-01-20 21:29

I told her that Cholita was crazy, can't she stick around with me for a while?

Nope. I tried to grab her, but she isn't solid anymore.

Ungrateful! And typical of a subset of women, only sticks around until something better comes along!

And yes, having some lazy lay-down practices is a good thing to have in our toolbox; when too tired etc. to get up and move around. They compliment the silence practice with the leather paperweight on the lower abdomen or diaphragm/sternum.

Intriguing that you tried them out last week. I hadn't heard, at least not through normal channels.

[-]
u/danl999 3 points 2020-01-20 21:31

I thought about trying them last night too, but didn't because I was so tired from babysitting Cholita all day.

u/jd198703 2 points 2020-01-29 07:55

I wonder if anyone has knowledge of all 5 not doing series so similar gifs/video could be created.

I recall the general idea was to have 5 standing series (From the "Magical passes" book) and 5 not doing series which was supposed to be practiced after it.

For standing ones we have a book, but lying ones seem to be becoming lost in time..

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 1 points 2020-01-29 11:07

If you look in the wiki / tensegrity / not-doing series I've listed the ones I know about...have yet to post description from workshops of the others. On the to do list.

If there are inaccuracies let us know, here in this post .

Links to videos of The Legs Rule Vitality are in there, no text yet.

[-]
u/jd198703 1 points 2020-01-29 11:19

In classical presentation Carlos and witches introduced 5 (or 6 not sure) original not-doing series. All other are modifications or derivatives.

My main point was like if someone has a knowledge of other series, maybe they could do similar animations/videos to preserve this knowledge for others to come.

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 2 points 2020-01-29 11:24

Yes, more visuals would be fantastic! It is difficult to work-out passes not demonstrated on video. You have to use your imagination...building on familiarity with the details of the filmed passes. Never quite sure if your doing it right.

I guess that's why they hold workshops and classes.

But then as Dan said, perfection isn't necessary...just the right intent and getting the essential "jist" of each pass.

[-]
u/jd198703 2 points 2020-01-29 14:00

Yeah, it would be cool to get also Magical (Sorcerer's) Code somewhere. Carlos emphasized it to be a very special and very ancient sequence which is essential in practice.

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 1 points 2020-01-29 14:03

If you go into the wiki / additional resources / in the streaming section towards the bottom is a link to the Toltec School YouTube channel.

He has a series of videos demonstrating The Code.

u/jd198703 1 points 2020-01-29 14:04

I put the playlist in the Wiki / Tensegrity / Not-Doing Series page

whew!... busy day...

[-]
u/jd198703 2 points 2020-01-30 22:30

Very profound series indeed. I did in twilight in my bed while forcing silence and after it I had a very strange feeling in my body and even less dialogue.

Those movements are simple and elegant easy to grasp from the video. I remember that Carlos has taught them in the end and always emphasized the Code to be the ancient series which is very powerful and important, which is essential for a sorcerers.

I just wonder if u/danl999 will be willing to give them a try, they seem to be worth it. And they are very different from usual standing series.

[-]
u/danl999 4 points 2020-01-30 22:46

I've tried them. They redeploy energy for sure.

He had a rest period at the end. Maybe he was hoping that method was lazy enough to get people to practice silence?

Is this a sufficient darkroom practice?

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 1 points 2023-03-05 17:20

For tensegrity in the darkroom, yes!

Might be particularly good for those with balance issues.

But...if you're the type that falls asleep easily while lying down on their back...you would need to either throw in one of the variants of this pass, or some standing ones to intersperse.

[-]
u/sleepy_boy_369 1 points 2023-03-05 17:29

Awesome!

[-]
u/TechnoMagical_Intent 1 points 2024-07-01 19:02

There is a major error with the first pass (and maybe more) in the running man video filmed by Gabrielle Soñando. Both feet make outward circles.

I can’t change the main post, to de-list that video, without running the risk of messing up the animated gifs. Reddit has serious issues once you get into multiple gifts running in the same post.

[-]
u/residentatzero 1 points 2025-01-19 02:14

Sorry, I don't understand, in the GIF the feet are exactly doing outward circles. So what's the issue there?
